hehhhh? DME is the control unit is ur engine control/computer housing unit. it is what your car basically functions on. its located inside the engine bay, on the passenger side, in the top corner. you have to remove various peices in order to get to the plastic white box that holds it. there bunch of wires and clips and connectors.
how do u know u have a dme failure?

Yes, the DME is the "Digital Motor Electronics".
Most cars also have a DME relay that powers up the DME or ECU or ECM depnding on your terminology lingo. DME relay or module. IF you are getting a code for this relay perhaps you should try swapping it out with a new one. Or one from a friends car. Btw... Google is your friend! Something interesting I just remembered from my VW days...
On the Golf/Jetta III's and IV's... they had a "power supply" relay. Basically a DME relay. When that relay would go bad... when the tech would would the faults stored in the OBDI and OBDII cars... there would be none. When that power supply relay( and maybe with a DME in our car?) it would wipe the ECU memory. Someone with a BT scan tool might wanna look into that! But first we need to find out where the relay is at. I know on my old E36 car that car had three DME relays! All next to the fuse box. |

now you know why i want to get rid of it. I had issues with the car shaking at high speeds as well. Not sure what the cause of that is either. Its brand new and never had an accident yet it feels like its salvage. Addressed it to the dealer they said they could not reproduce the situation. Now i have this light on.To make it worse its my first car let alone my first bmw. |

That sucks dude. It seems like it's prolly a mechanically faulty built car and has issues. Try sticking with it n see if u can get a cash settlement out if it. If ur going to suffer the annoyingness and constant headache of the problems and BMW is going todo anything you might as well grt some cash in return. See a lemon lawyer or call them up. It's a lease right ?
