Lightbulb Cadillac ATS (3 series fighter) Begins Testing. Spied in testing.

from http://www.atsforums.com/forums

GM just announced plans to produce its ATS small-mid-size sedan at its Michigan plant and the first spy pics of it just popped online. It's supposed to be take on the 3-series, A4, C-class like the CTS takes on the 5 series, A6, and E-Class. Supposed to be coupe, sedan, and other variants and ATS-V might also be in the works.

Anyone think this thing's got a shot at matching or even overtaking the 3 series, A4 or C ?

ATS-V render

Caddy is going to have to make a couple of generations of good product then people will take them seriously.

I think the product can be better then the competition, but fanbois are fanbois.

I think an entry level model with the 2.0L turbo (and 240-260HP?) would compete with the competitors (328i), but a top of the line V model with the 3.6L V6 and 310hp might fall short against, say a 335i

HAHA.. I would take the caddy any day after all of this crap in the news about BMW... I would take the M3 though... It seems to be the only car that has not been in a BAD spotlight...

The CTS-V over took the M5, so yeah, it's got a shot.

Pure blind fanboy perspective IMHO. I'm as much of a BMW fan as the next guy but there's no denying that the CTS/CTS-V has gotten some good reviews compared to the 5-series and E Class. If they can do that with the CTS, no reason why ATS/ATS-V can't at least come into the same league as the A4, C-Class, etc.

Especially that now the m5 is a TT V8. I would go for the CTS-V

Stuff the LS6 in it and they will have an M3 fighter.

Yup, the current CTS-V is one hell of a car. So it's got a shot.

I'd say it's a safe bet the ATS-V will have some kind of LS engine in it from the Corvette.

+1 N/A 430hp LS6 from the Vette would be satisfactory.

Why do you want an old Generation III Small Block V8 from the C5 Corvette Z06 in it? The ATS-V will have the new Generation V Small Block V8 that will be going into the C7 Corvette.

Exactly. Supposedly will be 5L, right? In any case you're looking at 400+ hp, can already see the car magazine headlines pitting it against the F32 M3.

yup that car w a LSx engine in it equals M3 smasher. Hope they keep the weight down and offer something other than a slushbox.

I was at a CTS-V driving event last month and one of the engineers there said they were testing a dual clutch tranny for the CTS-V. So I'm guessing by the time the ATS-V comes out it will have a DCT type tranny, hopefully it will have a manual option as well.

Seeing as the CTS-V is about 4200lbs, I could see the ATS-V around 3800lbs.
