Why no back row fore/aft movement or lumbar?

cheap toyota SUVs had it way back in 1999.

Because it is not required, adds complexity, doesn't allow the underseat area to be used for out of sight electronics, and can add noise and rattles.

There are probably a few other Minivan features that BMW have neglected to include on the new X3 as well.

Not everything is, and that does not always make it bad!

Fanboydom is a strange place. Rarely is it rational. It's annoying as hell and more than a little closed minded.

I would not call reclining seats a minivan feature, but rather a LUXURY feature.
If you think it is a minivan feature than why do the front seats recline and have power adjustments?

We aren't talking about front seats, we are talking about rear seats.

The new X3 doesn't have it, and never will in this body style IMHO. The X3 (like all BMWs) is for driving and enjoying the ride, not reclining in the back watching a movie, pretending you are on a plane or having date night like all those new fancy commercials.

The new X3 is for what ever the purchaser wants it to be. When it is my money being spent I look for those features I want, not the ones others think I should or shouldn't have!

To allow access to the 3rd row.

All X5's recline at the least if not fore/aft.
Why?
They have enough room.
Could it be a luxury?

Cost savings on the design and production line. All X5s coming with the feature allows for one set of seat bases, one set of tooling, one installation and training manual, etc, etc, etc. I believe that they are also wider in the rear due to the longer length of the body, which would allow for the seat to recline.

Like I said, probably never going to happen in the X3 unless the public demands it. More than likely, the public will never demand it in the X3 and mid-production facelift does not usually include uni-body rework.

If enough people asked for it during X3 focus groups, you can be sure that it would be on the next version in 2018?

Or they just move to a competitor that has the features they want! Only 1 in 10 people bother to give feedback, the other 9 just buy something else.

This is a small, sporty offroad performance vehicle. To me, reclining rear seats seem to be pretty much the most irrelevant, unnecessary feature possible. I have been loyal to BMW because they care more about making the thing exciting to drive than placating my ungrateful kids in the back seat.

Which they should do instead of putting in features that no one wants...and by no one, I mean the 98% of buyers that buy small SUVs and care about reclining rear seats.

Most people with kids buy minivans; most people with X3 style vehicles have dogs, have no kids, or are empty nesters.

Generalization for sure, but my previous statement still stands.

As for it being fanboydom; does the GLK or Q5 come with this feature?
