2011 Owners with Sept Prod Changes Please Report Here
I'd like to hear from 2011 owners who have received their cars that were built Sept onward that have the new:
BMW ConnectedDrive Innovations Mobile Office Bluetooth Music Streaming Album Cover Art Voice Control of Devices These new features are exclusive to 2011 Sept builds. Can someone post a pic of how the iPod album artwork shows up on your Navi? I haven't seen anyone post a pic of that yet. How are you benefiting from these other changes for Sept?? How are you using these features? |

I was fortunate enough to have my car built at the beginning of September. At first, I was really excited, but I now it doesn't seem like it is a huge upgrade. Maybe I am not taking advantage of certain features. I was mostly excited for the wireless bluetooth, but it wasn't what I was expecting. When my phone is connected through bluetooth I can't even see what song is playing through the Idrive. I can only change songs. I like being able to use the standard ipod wire to play the music instead of the origional y cable. I had to order a black one to match my interior. My old Y cable in my 2007 was too short, and it also broke. The longer thinner wire allows me to close my armrest on it and let it rest in the front tray. The only other difference the I have noticed is the album artwork display. I'm sure there are other features I have not learned to use yet, but I will be more than happy to let you know after I continue to learn about the new Idrive.

I just picked up my 2011 Sept build 328xi. I have no nav and I don't have an iPod so I can't say much about the improvements.
I can say that Bluetooth music streaming does not work on my car even though I thought it would. I can't say I'm too disappointed I'm still sure that ordering the car without the nav package was the right decision. |

The biggest change is that ipod no longer needs the Y cable for both charging and audio playback, it is just a single cable that does both jobs, though BMW no longer supplies the cable =_=
The album art is very small, and it shows at the top right corner of the nav screen. |

So then I am confused, BMW issued a bulletin showing all the new changes and it sounds like it's not a great as the bulletin says, huh? So are these changes not working yet in the new 3 except for the ipod stuff?
There is a video of the new X3 showing the enhancements of Connect Drive demontration using email and how it can now read your email. Watch this video and scroll to the end at 6:50 time where they demonstrate the Connected Drive with Mobile Office Demo http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=444616 I thought it was going to be a major thing to have these changes for Sept build to allow for updating to even better things to come down the road with the combox. I have a september build w/out nav - hate the look of the dash with the nav - so the only functionality I have is the use of the iPhone without a special cable. That said, there are some issues w/bluetooth, USB & iPhone iOS4.1 so mine isn't 100%. Supposedly Apple has 4.2 coming in November which I've heard from beta testers will fix my issues.
My understanding is that all the stuff for connected drive is going to be rolled out incrementally - so not all available immediately. I'm pretty sure that I read that on the connected drive website and that was what my CA told me. I don't think Mobile Office is up and running yet in the US. So while it may not be working now, IMHO it will be a big deal to have a September build with the combox hardware. |

Yeah I wrote BMW to say WTF, I got a 2011 assuming there'd be no changes with 2012 models coming late in 2011 or 2012. They told me that maybe if enough people say something they'll be able to bring the software update to us, but unlikely. I'm going to negotiate a 2011 Nav Update for free. |

The new setup doesn't require you to use the aux cable in addition to the USB port anymore, so you can just use the standard USB cable you got with your I-Pod to connect to the car.
