Cracked Windshield

So seems like my windshield cracked and I will be taking it to the dealer tomorrow. Weird thing is I have no idea when it cracked and how it cracked. Basically the main place where it cracked is on the way bottom side of the windshield, there is no way a rock could of hit it because the hood is actually higher on that part so it covers it. Do you think the dealer will cover this under the warranty? Because it is obvious it couldnt be an object hitting it...

No, I don't think windshields are covered under warranty, just as chips and scratches are not covered.

Apparently you don't have glass breakage on your insurance? With Nationwide I have the choice of a totally different deductible for glass breakage that doens't have the effect of raising your policy a ton like lowering the main deductible. I got my glass breakage set at $25 - so most I'll ever pay is 25 bucks. Glass breaks, I don't even have to call insurance co. - just call Safelight and bam! new glass for $25

I suspect that you'll point of impact somewhere. These cars do not have a history of stress cracks but anything is possible.

If it is a stress crack due to an improperly mounted windshield at the factory then it would be covered under the warranty.

In states that don't have a separate glass coverage, glass is covered under the comprehensive portion of your insurance and that deductible applies.

Glass claims (or any other comp claim for that matter) will not affect your future rates.

Insurance is a funny thing, haves, and have nots. My state doesn't have a $0 deduct so it costs me $200. Anyway, ever see your medical claims? 30 minute checkup and the bill was $2700, and insurance paid $180 because it was done by a participating provider. Then they try to bill some more and it says "denied, member not liable." Can you imagine what happens to the poor folks who have no insurance? Yep, collection agency for $3900 for what cost someone with health insurance $20 copay. When it comes to glass, i feel like the guy who got charged $3900!

Same thing happened to me expect my wipers hit the window at about 100mph, My insurance covered it. NJ and FL cover it under insurance some other states might but check with your insurance.

Why? Don't you have comprehensive insurance?

Some people only buy liability insurance.

When mine had a small crack, I filed a claim with my insurance, they sent the company they work with.
They told me I need to replace it cause the crack was too low
quoted me at $660, my deductible is $500.

I called BS.

Got DentPlus (he's mobile around LA), he came, fixed it, I paid him $60.

Then I called the agent handling my claim, he informed me that I should fax over a copy of the invoice.

After I faxed it over, he took care of the rest and sent me a check for $60.
Insurance rate didn't go up.

So, don't go to the dealer.
They will nickle and dime you.

Unless there was a factory problem (which I doubt)

Insurance should cover it. If you can't afford to completely write the car off, you'd best have comprehensive insurance

That's a bit absurd. I don't know anyone who would own a 2008 335 and not have comprehensive - since comp covers fire/theft/wildlife/other things not your fault.

What is more likely is that the poster was unaware

1. That his comp insurance covered glass; and
2. Comp claims don't affect insurance rates

Comp insurance is generally quite inexpensive and a low deductible generally is fairly cheap as well.

There are those who buy M3s and complain about putting 91 in their car

So.... unfortunately there are those type of people out there.

Not saying anyone in this thread is; just stating a simple observation
