It's official, switching from 335i to 335d (Eco Credit info)

Yesterday I agreed to the terms on a 2011 335d, Space Gray with Oyster Interior, Premium Pkg, Sports Pkg, Nav, Paddle Shifter, Heated Seats, iPod Adapter, Harman Kardon, Rear Sunshade.

The only option I would not have gotten, if ordered, would have been the rear sunshade. Also the Oyster interior was not my original choice, but was the only way to get everything else I wanted. Although after looking at another car on the lot, with that interior, I have to say that it is a pretty sexy color.

The car is already build and about 3 weeks from hitting the port. The dealer agreed to take my lease return about 3 months early, without penalty, and I still got the best possible deal on the new lease. About $1000 over invoice minus $3500 eco credit.
I really wanted to take advantage of the eco credit and I would have missed out on it, if I would have kept my 335i until the lease is up in Feb 2011.

An important note for others who are considering getting a 335d. In order to get the eco credit, one must take delivery of the car before 1/3/11. There is not enough time to order one anymore, thus leaving only what's out there or already on it's way, making it difficult finding the exact car you might want.

they keep extending the eco credit, though they did lower it this month from 4500 to 3500, but they also lowered the lease MF so its pretty close.

You should love the D, it doesnt appear to have big problems like the 335i does with the HPFP (or my previous 5 series eating batteries on a yearly basis).

Eco credit sounds so official and IRS'ish, but in reality it's a factory rebate, right? Marketing when it comes to securites is so strict as to what can be said, what cannot, but when it comes to cars, it's nothing less than anything goes.

I have a feeling they are phasing the eco credit out. The sales manager showed me the document that stated "must take delivery by 1/3/11 for eco credit to apply". I wouldn't be surprised if they lower it to $2500 next month and $1500 in December, with the same deadline. Just a guess.

Yeah the HPFP is one of the reasons I'm going with the diesel, the others being fuel economy, resale value and just to try something different. Besides, 70% of Europeans can't be wrong.
Generally I prefer high reving engines that I can wind up, but I've noticed with my last two cars that I do it less and less. I guess those flat torque curves are getting to me.

Trust me, you'll love the diesel. The performance difference between it and its gasoline brother is tiny, and it's nice not to have the threat of an HPFP failure looming over you as you drive. The fuel economy is just a bonus. I haven't been keeping up with news on the eco credit, but I suppose they could be phasing it out gradually as more and more people warm to the idea of a diesel sport sedan.

It would be nice to have a 335d low end and a M3 after 4K.

The test drive is what convinced me. The fuel economy, and the lack of widespread mechanical issues are just icing on the cake.

Hopefully this will be a car I can keep for 10 years.

Same here. I was only considering the Diesel and was very skeptical, until I test drove it. I was really impressed how well it spools up (revs) for a Diesel and how close the overall feel was to the gasoline counterpart. And like you mentioned, fuel economy and HPFP a non issue, are a bonus.

The dealer called me yesterday and told me that the car I was going to get is already spoken for, so now I'm waiting to see if the second choice, Alpine White/black interior with the same options is still available. This one is already at another dealer an if they are willing to let it go, I should be able to take possession next week.
My current car is Alpine White/Black interior, not a bad combo, just a bit boring to have it two times in a row.

The standard eqipment makes for a nice vehicle but,for some of us,options just make a good thing better

And BTW...if you're still in Iraq,stay safe!
