Replacing wood trim to aluminum trim on 335i coupe
Last month I picked up a 335i and dislike the wood. I was wondering if it's possible to switch this to aluminum? If so can anybody provide a link where I can buy this exact aluminum trim?

Very possible. Tischer (getbmwparts.com) sells it new, or you can browse classifieds in hopes of finding a used set in good condition for cheaper. Make sure you differentiate between E90, E92; Idrive and non-idrive

I called the dealer, and they were quoting this at $800. The website mentioned is also right near $800 ($780). Would you guys recommend buying the pieces from the dealer instead since they're so closely matched in price?

Shipping would likely be more than the difference so dealer is proably a good option.

I contacted Tisher where I ordered the trim, but they do not provide instructions on how to remove the trim on your vehicle and install their trim. Does anybody know of a link or instructions on how to do this? The pieces are on there pretty firm and I don't want to damage anything if I can avoid it.

it seems hard at first, just pry them out with a thin tool maybe a flat head screw driver... i used a puddy knife to pry the trim pieces out...works like a charm..i was scared to damage anything at first, but then i see how each piece is inserted and i realized it wasnt as hard as it sounded.

It's 2010.... aluminum was cool about 7 or 8 years ago, now it's played out. If you want to be modern and stylish, get it wrapped in carbon fiber or another material of your choice!
IMO wrapping looks and feels much better than aluminum or wood and is cheaper anyway. |

It's expensive, but you can resell current factory trim (in my case, dark wood), on eBay for $500-$600 if it's in top condition. In the end, paying $200 to have the car the way i really want is certainly worthwhile, considering I purchased a CPO vehicle and wood trim was the ONLY thing I didn't like about the car.
Carbon fiber is certainly cooler and more updated than aluminum trim, but on the 335i coupe, black on black, I like the aluminum trim better than the carbon fiber being offered. I think on the next generation when BMW probably starts offering CF trim from the factory, it will match the vehicle much better. |
