2010 6er Cab or 2011 335i Cab
Hi All,
Ok finally tested the 5er F10 and not my cup of tea, I want to stick with a convertible. So the question is, go with 2010 Demo fully loaded 6er or a brand new fully loaded 2011 335i cab - both 6 speed. They are both quite the same in price after I am done negotiating and I will be financing either one of them. I have always loved the 6er but the real attraction of the 3 series cab is the hardtop and the new LCI lights. Then you love the fact that the 6er is a NA V8 CPO'd and includes full service and all the latest gadgets. Anymore reasons I should lean to a new 335i compared to a 6er. Or do I get 6er bug out of my system? Thanks all... Joe

Depends what you want? If the prices are that close..get the 6, more status, more comfort...nice engine...with MT, naturally aspirated is WAYY better than turbocharged...more pure driving experience.
6 probably won't turn in or be as sporty a drive as the 3 But a 335 cab is overpriced for a 3 series. esp with no M badge. Get the 6...besides you're in Tdot..gotta pimp it up a bit. |

Tough choice. Take them both out for a rip and see which one you like better. The 3er will probably handle better however the 6er may have a nicer interior feel. Either way you can't go wrong, all depends on what you are looking for.
Also if you plan on keeping the car for a while the NA 6er would I'm guessing be less maintenace then the 3er. I don't know much abour the reliability on the 6er however I don't think it has the same known issues as the 3er. |

Had an 06 M6, got rid of it for my 335 Cab...
M6 - beast, great interior, fast is not even close 335 - FUN, gas milage, really nice interior, handling, insurance... Did I say fun... A 6'er is showing people you have money, a 335 says you have a clue... Mods, I bought a Proceed, exhaust and intake for less than an exhaust for my M... If it's not an "M", it's just a big car with horrible sight lines (vert) and a funky looking canvas top... My 2 cents...

Never been much of a 6 series fan, I like the rear, but the front is horribly done imo. To be honest unless it is an M6, I would be all about the 3.

Ya spoke to the wife tonight and she feels the same way. She says the 6er without the M treatment is not what I am looking for. See my issue is simple, at the end of the day I really have always wanted to get back into the V10 (but manual) and fell in love with the vert lifestyle having this one for a year now. So I know the logical thing would be to wait for a 2010 - ideally I should have bought one in August (production is done now) but honestly I was not in the mind set to put down that kind of cash for a car when I was trying to get us into a house. Now the house thing is settled so its time for my reward...
There are 0, I mean ZERO, MT M6s in Canada that are 2008s+. All the ones I am ok with are out of the US and that is a pain in the butt I wanted to avoid but looks like I may have to go down that path. Aight chat soon.. will update everyone tomorrow. Going to the dealer to see what my options are in Canada. Maybe a 2010 showed up. Joe

One last opinion on the 6 vs 3 issue... And it may not matter to anyone else...
My Corvettes, My Carrera S Cab, my 335, I could give the "key" to anyone and they could drive it... NO ONE could drive the M6 easily... NO ONE, it's not a car you can just hand off... The SMG is a pain in the ass until you learn how to drive it... However, the normal 6's would not have this problem...

And the saga continues. Today I went to test BMW to test the 3 Cab and realized that there is no space in the truck with the top down, basically useless; so the golf clubs are going in the rear seat. The 335 was nice and engaging as expecting but it felt too much like the 1er we are about to get rid of. I also found the cockpit to be a little lower then the 1er ... not the greatest. So then I sat in the 6er Cab and realized that the windscreen really does swoop down low, almost staring at it (6'3). It was a nice comfortable drive with all the gadgets (HUD etc.) nice to have. Not as connected as I would have liked but good. At this point I was just not drooling at anything and I think it was because it all felt too similar (I guess I have owned a few BMWs).
On the way down to meet my buddy I called Porsche downtown and booked a quick test drives. Met the rep and we talked about the car and the differences in the line etc. He found a Porsche Cab 6speed. At first I let him drive and just tried to get adjusted to the ride and the vehicle. Then we switched, holly molly.. I keep thinking about it over and over again. You are just so connected to the road and car... not to mention the sound of the exhaust and the engine. I was just smiling (ear to ear) and with the top up there was no buffeting or wind chatter. It just all worked and fit so well. Now the big difference was the price (almost double) of the 335i; amazing that BMW fits so much value in the CAB. More confusion to the mix... in December we will see what happens. One thing I noticed between BMW and Porsche. If you want to test an ///M car there usually are none around or you just have to trust the forums and reviews. If you want to test Porsche just make an appointment and your in. This really helps sell their brand because I have been a bimmer man for life but these kind of experiences really play with your head.
