DS Mode Question

Hi all,

Just got a 2007 328i and noticed when using the DS mode, downshifts from 3->2 and 2->1 are very rough and jerky. I mentioned this to the service guy at the dealer and he said that I should be doing the downshifting, not the car. It's jerky because the car doesn't know gear to be in.

He said it is either leave it in D or DS and do the shifting. I thought I could still just leave it in DS and it would just be more "aggressive" or put it in manual mode and do it all myself.

Is what the dealer telling me right? Doesn't sound right to me.

Thanks!

you lost me with all the D/DS stuff.

D= automatic
Ds = sportier automatic
Manual DS = you shift whenever you want to or you wait till it redlines and shifts on its own.

As far as jerking goes, i've never seen it happen on a e90, so wouldn't know. usually computer will either let you downshift if it feels like it wlll end up in the right RPM range or will not cause an over rev.

How many miles do you have on the car ? it might be a good idea to change the transmission oil.

Sorry for the confusion. Basically, he is saying don't put it in in DS and drive it like it is in D. Put it in DS and shift it like Manual DS. I thought I could put in DS and not have to worry about shifting it myself.

Car has 36k miles.

This. D/S is supposed to downshift at a higher RPM by itself unless you're manually shifting.
