What is wrong with people?!

Went to get into my car on Saturday afternoon and noticed something odd along the driver's door and rear panel. Looking more closely I realised that there was a series of scuffs and scratches, about 2 foot along and about 3cms deep. It would appear that some ignorant, careless git has scraped the side, probably with a bumper and probably in the supermarket carpark, but not bothered to leave a note.

So it's off to the bodyshop and out with the wallet I guess. Or claim on the insurance and pay the excess. One way or another it's going to cost...and the car's not even 5 weeks old yet!

I always try to find a decent space in supermarkets as well, but it was blowing a gale and raining heavily when I went the other night, so I dived in the nearest space.

Why can't people just be honest when they hit a car...but that's too much to expect I suppose...

People like that will get what they deserve in life. Very same thing happened to a friend of mine in Tescos carpark, when an 18 y/o pretty much scraped the whole side of their car... and then drove off. Very fortunately a person sitting in a car opposite saw the whole thing and noted the number plate and told my friend when they returned. My friend called the police, they investigated and turned up at the little scumbags house... where he initially denied it!!!! After some further discussions he did finally admit it (the scuffs on his own car kind of gave the game away).

Hope you get a good repair job done and its back in first class condition soon.

Unfortunately people do not respect other people's property, especially in supermarket car parks. Bashing doors is a common sight! I always park as far away as possible where no one else parks. So far I've avoided anyone bashing my doors. Hope you get it repaired ok.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty annoyed with myself as well, because I usually spend a while finding a decent space, having had doors knocked and trolleys banged into the front on previous cars. But tired after a long meeting and with the weather as it was I just parked in the closest available. Never again.

I think most of us have been there, and would happily throttle the little toerags.

I've got a couple of small doors dings and a bigger dent from some toerags who lobbed a beer can at the car on the way back from UK2.

What bugs me is that you chose the most out of the way, uphill section of a carpark, tight against a wall or kerb to protect one side of the car... then when you come back somebody has parked some POS next to your pride and joy.

Got a quote from the body shop. Over £900 notes to spray three panels and sort the dint in the driver's door. They are an approved BMW and Porsche repair place with an excellent reputaion and assure me that it will be as new. Definitely an insurance job at that price though.

Not really surprising to be honest. As long as it looks like new and you are happy with the result, thats the important thing.

I hate any damage. I just have to get things fixed up straight away, even a scratch!

When I traded in the Z4, the dealer commented... "I see you don't kerb your alloys".
They were completely unmarked. Kerbed wheels really bug me.

My alloys are still immaculate, even after 18 months. I would cry if I kerbed them. I'm extra careful as the 162's cost me a small fortune! I think the wheels are a good indicator of a well looked after car.

Don't think you'll do any damage by hitting the redline now and again. More likely to cause more damage by launching it from a standstill!!!!

Absolutely true! All driver's cars need to be driven hard...but not driven into.

The RX8 that I had previously was designed to redline. It even had a beep to let you know that you had reached the rev limiter...at 9000rpm.

Can't wait until this car has a few more miles on the clock and I can start to play a bit more!

Exactly the same for me... so far I don't think I've been over 3500rpm

Fuel consumption is also not exactly what it says on the tin... but I expect it will get better as the engine loosens up.

MPG will improve. I've never reset my computer and I average 31.0 MPG since I got the car and that's including redlining every so often!!! Just an amazing engine - performance and reasonable economy

I can sympathise completely with RockIt.

About 2 months after I had my car, I came back from doing the shopping to find a trolley resting against the back of my car, leaving a nice gauge in the bumper!

The week later, i came back and found someone had driven into the front bumper on the passenger side, crumpling it in and messin up the paintwork!

No one left details or even an apology! Honestly, if I'd have found the ones responsible, I'd have introduced their cars to my baseball bat!! Lol.

I couldnt believe that the week after I got the repairs done, a bottle of milk leaked all inside my car!!!

I reckon Gods jelous cause I drive a 'Beemer'!!! :rocks:

Solution -
1. Take kids with you and park in big wide child & baby space.
2. Park in the middle of 2 spaces

1. Just put a baby seat in the back and leave the kids at home.
2. Do that and you'll find two cars stradling the adjacent spots squeezed up next to yours.
