Daytime Running Lights

Ok, today has been about the first day since getting the car that the auto headlights didn't activate (due to the weather being a bit brighter!) - so only the daytime running lights came on. These actually seemed brighter than the sidelight setting which surprised me. I thought the DRL were the same as the sidelights ... but is seems an extra non-xenon bulb lights up somewhere... can anybody confirm this???

Yes, DRL setting definitely results in brighter "angel eyes" than sidelights. To confirm this, just park in front of a wall or garage door, and you can see the lights reflected.

On a related subject, I originally I thought the automatic light setting was a gimmick, but now I have got used to it. The only time it didn't work for me was in daytime fog, when it only put the angel eyes on and not the dipped headlights (presumably because it wasn't dark enough). I think it would be good to have some indication inside the car to show what lights are actually on when in automatic mode.

That was what made me realise!

I thought the only automatic choice was whether the dipped headlights were on (xenon) or not? I didn't think it put the sidelights on automatically?? The green led next to the light switch comes on when the headlamps are on (and of course the dashboard light up).

Yes, the Auto option is designed to automatically turn on the dipped headlights (low beams). DRLs are configurable - if they are configured, as they are on my car, then they are permanently on when the switch is in position 3 (Auto). The DRLs light the halos brighter than the sidelights setting. AFAIK, if you disable DRLs, you cannot get the bright halos.

Thank you for pointing this out - I didn't notice the little green LED down there... clearly I need to RTFM more carefully. ;-)

No problem Its not exactly in a place that catches your eye... almost like the green LED for the auto windscreen wipers, which I never seem to see because of the steering wheel.

Gordon.
