Oil Temp - how long does it take to warm up
It was 10C outside today and it took my car 30 minutes to reach 110C, which is as warm as the engine oil temp. gets. Is this normal? Seems like it's a bit too long for the engine to reach ideal operating temp.
Any thoughts? I drove between 70-85kph steadily to work. Thanks |

I was gonna ask this same question so figured I'd just bump this thread so that the OP might be able to access the responses too. I noticed that after 15 minutes of driving (granted keeping it under 3k rpm as it wasn't heated up yet), my 335 still doesn't get off 160..

I don't have an oil cooler and after about 20-30 minutes highway, or 25 minutes local driving my oil temperature is maybe halfway between cold and 240 which is my normal operating temp. After that it only takes another 5 minutes to get to full temp.

I don't have an oil cooler, and was figuring it should at least bump off the 160 after a little while.. but hey, as long as my car isn't the only one that takes 20+ min to get to operating temp.. alls good (just got the car a week ago, still getting a feel for what to expect from it)

I've always had a small issue with the oil-hot warmed up metric.
Notice that with most cars, you only get water temperature gauges. Thus, in most cars... Your car is warmed up when your coolant is up to temp...

Sidenote, according to the manual you are not suppose to warm-up the car.

Interesting, I really have to read that manual.. have had the car a week and learn something new every .. minute! So, how long do you guys wait before you start pushing your cars? I usually end up waiting till I hit at least ~180 before I'll let it see the other side of 3k rpm.
