Average repairs to 320d after 50k miles?
I have a 2005 e90 320d and has now reached 50,000 miles and I intend to keep it long term.
My extended 3rd party warranty I've had on it since it was 3 years old is expiring tomorrow and they are asking if I would like to renew it - one year for £299 or two years for £539 - this covers any repair no matter how major or minor, an unlimited amount of times up to the value of the entire car with genuine BMW parts etc What I'm trying to work out is what problems/repairs am I likely to run in to between 50-80k miles? Would the warranty be worth its cost? What are the experiences of those of you with a high milage 320d? Thanks in advance Dan |

I ask the questions you're afraid to ask.

I suspect that repairs in the UK are pretty dear and the US$1000 for an additional 2 years or 30k miles seems pretty reasonable.
Have you used the 3rd party warranty at all yet? That might be your best way of determining if you should get it. Me? I'd have a trusted mechanic give the car a once over and get his opinion too. You might be better off asking in your regional forum. Most members here are from the US (where the 320 isn't sold at all) and there is very little experience with higher mileage BMW diesels. |

I'd forgotten the 320 isn't sold in us - have posted in uk forum instead. I did claim on the warranty for a defect with the breather pipe on the fuel tank should've been a recall but BMW said it wasn't required... I think I remember seeing a repair bill for around £400. Warranty almost paid for itself...
Have gone for 3 years extended 3rd party warranty for £720 - it will take me to around 95k miles so I guess a blown turbo could make that worth it in one full swoop... Injectors can go wrong as well which are pricey. |
