SSK dealer install cost?
Have an appointment to bring my car in for the SSK install tomorrow (actually just the shift lever, circlip and bushing - keeping my boot and M shift knob), just wondering if anyone knows what the 'book' time is for it so I don't get ripped off.
I know its a relatively straightforward DIY but I just don't have the time. Thanks, Howard

Sounds like a $100 labor fee, then. If they try to charge you more, they are really really gouging you. If you take that deal, you would be what is known to dealerships as a "chump".

I'm not sure if there is any BMW in these united states that charges $100 an hour. I'd bet the rate is around 2 hours at whatever going rate at the dealership is. Why doesn't the OP call the dealership and ask - then come back here for opinions?

2.5 hours at $135/hr $337.50. Wide World of Cars in Spring Valley, NY. Think I'll make the DIY time, unless someone can recommend an Indy shop in the NY-NJ-CT area. Thanks, Howard

That's cheap. DC area dealers are $150-$165 an hour.

Yea, with those prices, you should make some time for a DIY.

Sal @ Autocouture. He's about 15 minutes from Wide World, in New Jersey and is recommended by many people on this forum. He did my SSK install. Tell him Derek with 335 M-sport coupe sent you. 201-666-3500

Done. Total working time about an hour. Results match what I've read - shifts are a little more notchy and require slightly more effort but are much shorter. Mission accomplished. Oh, new shift lever is a little taller too. Not sure if that's good or bad, I have no problem with it.
Since I only replaced the mechanicals - shift lever, bushing, circlip, total cost was about $83 plus my time. Not bad. Thanks for the Sal@Autocouture heads up. I'll keep that info for future projects (possibly performance suspension next year). Howard
