Clutch Slipping?

First, a little background on the car. I bought it used from a used car lot two years ago this coming June with 27,000 miles on it. Chances are it was a female driver (profiling big time here) due to the female hair I found in the car ... I now have a hunch that she didnt know what she was doing/didnt know how to drive a stick.

The car currently has ~ 49030..

Cut to the chase here.... The car's RPMS, under full throttle in 6th gear at around 55 mph, will shoot up about 500-800 ever so gradually with out an increase in acceleration... and then suddenly drop down to where they should be. The car then accelerates as it normally would.

However, when the car is in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.. it does not do this under full throttle

I have a hunch that it is for sure the clutch thats going bad... Can anyone confirm?

If it is indeed the clutch, I can assure you that it wasnt me who abused the clutch to an extent that would cause it to go bad at 50k... or even abused it all for that matter. What are my chances of getting the clutch warrantied at this point in the game? I know it can be an extremely pricey fix...

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks guys.

I'd say your best bet is just to get into the dealer before you get any closer to that 50k. See if you can take them for a ride on the highway and show them what's going on.

Good advice, do this.

Chances are pretty good you'll get it fixed under warranty, especially if it's a problem you can reproduce for them every time. Get it in there ASAP though, don't let it tick over 50,000 or you'll be dealing with another batch of red tape to get it fixed. Let us know what happens!

I hope so. I have heard horror stories about owners taking the blame for clutch problems... Granted, most the time it is from abuse.

I made the 500 mile round trip to my dealership today.

Immediately, I requested a ride with one of the mechanics to point out exactly what I was talking about. I was able to duplicate the problem easily. He wasn't so sure what it was and wanted to check for codes.

After about 5 hours of waiting in the dealership (they had to fix a few other issues with the car), my SA called me down.

The mechanic that I rode with told me that it could possibly be something with the boost pressure but would have to run an array of tests to confirm. He also noted that It could possibly be a wearing clutch but it would not be fixed under warranty as they are considered "wear items".

Sparknotes- Went to the dealership, fixed everything BUT the "Clutch" issues, Cars out of warranty now.

If you are having a slipping clutch, it will show up more in the high gears than the low. In 6th gear, WOT, you have the greatest load on the clutch.

If it is slipping, I'd suspect you get some chattering slipping the clutch in the lower gears?
