Bmw 2003 325i!!

I just bought a 3 series BMW from a buddy of mine and when I start the engine everything seems cool but when i engage on drive, the engine oil symbol shows and stays for like 1min...Is this normal? I also had a sign on d dash board like water sign or something but i added water and the sign went off...But this Oil sign gives me cause to worry....Please help..

You are fine as long as the symbol wasn't red. Most likely you just need to top it off with oil...
