Off to Munich!! What to see and do??

So I'm off on a eurotrip and will be stopping in Munich.

Got the BMW factory tour booked and plan to spend time at the Welt and the Museum......

Besides all things BMW is there anything else I should check out??

Have fun!

Depends on what you like to do and how much time you have.

The Deutsches Museum is a wonderful technical museum complete with salt and coal mines, a submarine and a V-2 rocket

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsches_Museum

There is a huge pedestrian zone with all sorts of shopping. The city hall has a mechanical turntable on the clocktower where mechanical knights duke it out at noon. Next to city hall is Donisl (a beer hall/restaurant) in a building dating back to 1417 (IIRC - I might be off by a hundred years or so )

Here's what we did:

-Mike's bike tour (absolutely recommend it)
-Octoberfest
-Drink a shit ton of beer at Hofbrau (you have to go)
-Welt/Museum

-Leave Munich and go SW to Neuschwenstein
-Cruise through Alps and Austria
-Go to Salzburg
-Head back toward Munich as fast as your car will go
-Go past Munich to Rothenberg (another must see place)

Also depends on your time allotted. My favorite part was stopping at a rest stop in the Alps and discovering they serve beer there. I can't fathom why I live in the U.S.

Oh and don't forget to laugh hysterically when you get passed up by a lady driving the German equivalent of a mini-van at 130+ mph. Insane.

Pretty good short itinerary. Might add gelato stop in Italy lake district.

In case you don't know, it's the castle in which Walt Disney got inspired in... guess it's a must for an american... as well as for everyone else!

If you want to take a tour book it in advance.

Dachau and north

If you go to Dachau (note the concentration camp museum is closed on Mondays), afterward consider driving north on St2339 to 13. Beware, don't go too far north to Ingolstadt - the home of Audi - before heading back to the Autobahn and to Munich. The drive is beautiful, rolling, German countryside with small towns interspersed. Attached are a couple of pictures from a trip in May a few years ago.

You must take a drive through the Bavarian Alps. Fantastic twisties and amazing scenery. There are some amazing mountain roads with little traffic! Absolutely amazing coupled with the autobahn that gets you there!

That's incredible. I went on my ED trip a couple months ago, and my travel companion was Naomi - your sig made me laugh.

Anyways, in Munich itself there's also a tour leaving from the central train station (at 11AM IIRC) that does a walking tour of Hitler's raise to power in Munich - a little bit different since that's a less known part leading to WWII.

Also, don't know your age, but there's a few good nightclubs that are worth going to after the beer at Hofbrauhaus.

If you like good german beer and food, stop by the Augustiner beer garden. If I remember correctly, go out the north entrance of the train station, hang a left, then about three blocks later, it's on your right. Go into the large outdoor area on your left. Awesome food and beer (if you didn't hear the first time).
