Thumbs down Interior trim not available, what are my options if any?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 335is. There's only one thing that bothers me, the interior trim. The only available trim for the 335is is Dark Glacier Aluminum. I really wanted to get the Bamboo Anthracite Wood trim that is offered in all other 3 series cars. The two dealers I've spoken with say Dark Glacier Aluminum is the only one I can get and there's nothing they can do to get another one.

Is this true? I've seen people get different colored leather seats that BMW doesn't even offer/advertise before. The car I'm ordering would need to be factory built. Why can't I get a different trim installed from factory?

I believe you can only get the glacier tag...you could swap out the trim later but IIRC it's sort of expensive

Dark Glacier is the only option. It's unique to the 335is, and part of the "look".

Unless things have changed recently or if the 335is has a unique dash layout, then the trim is user (or dealer) replaceable. It should also be nil cost or you can negotiate it to nil cost because the dealer can re-use the trim in another vehicle.

BTW if it is a factory build, consider the active cruise control.

I don't even know where to get the trim from. Ticher has black but I don't know if it fits the newer iDrive console. If I can't get a different trim I might resort to pulling it all out and having a shop paint it black. Stupid I have to even consider this with a new car. Really BMW? Really? You offer only ONE trim?

I can't believe your dealer didn't suggest that they could swap it out it out for a small fee to keep you happy.

That's like you saying you don't want the "335is" on the tach... it's just part of the uniqueness of the 335is.

However, Tischer sells all their trims to fit the new and old iDrive (you select what year model you have)... and I'm sure some crazy forum member wants to be a poser with the 335is trim so you could probably sell it for a good chunk on here

I understand how the OP feels on this point. I hated the plastic crap they used in my old E46M3 while other e46s had in my opinion, much nicer trim. We all like what we like.

I think the dealer should help him out here, but your advice was good if they don't. somebody that likes the IS trim will definietly buy it. I don't think they would really be a "poser" though, in the real world, outside of BMW forums and dedicated BMW fans, nobody would even know the difference.

I would take the trim as is for now. I know how you feel as I don't like that dark glacier either but you'll probably find someone on the forum who will buy it off you or consider getting it wrapped in the material of your choice.

I just want a dark colored trim because that is my preference. I didn't know the whole line gets Dark Glacier Aluminum now. That just pisses me off even more.

Unless they changed something in the last week, you have to get the M-sport pkg here in the US to get Dark Glacier (or an IS, of course).

It is kind of weird that with M-sport, you can have options of trim, but with IS, you have only one.

They want to maintain the IS branding and cost which is why they only offer you one type of trim. It all comes down to cost, it's cheaper this way.

The car is not covered with 335is branding by accident.

Does anyone know if the 335is badge on the trim is stamped in or if you can remove it? I spoke to my dealer and he said if they have something they may swap it out for me. Just want to make sure about the badge because I'm pretty sure they wouldn't do it if that was the case.

If it's any consolation, the trim/badge look better in person. The same goes for the exterior badging. If it bothers you that much, consider an M-sport 335i with BMW Performance upgrades.

I was in a 135i with the Glacier Aluminum trim, albeit it was not dark and I thought it was awful. Too bright and not a fan of the print. I wouldn't get a 335i just because of that. But I'm no quitter; I'll try everything I possibly can to get it swapped out.

Not entirely accurate...for silver/aluminum style interior trims it breaks down as follows for the MY11 335s

E90 335 = Glacier Silver Aluminum or Aluminum
E92/93 335 = Dark Glacier Aluminum (requires M sport) or Aluminum
E92/93 335is = Dark Glacier Aluminum

Isn't that the definition of poser? If I saw a 328i with M3 badges on it... even though most people may not realize... I would still consider that person a poser...

I just think it's wrong to have badges saying your car is something it isn't...

That being said, I don't think the badge on the trim can be removed

I tend to agree with this, especially since the same trim is available without the -is badge on cars equipped with the Msport package

At least the 328i driver would be consistent branding-wise. I snapped this pic a couple months back:
