Making a M1, what would it cost?
I'll throw out some rough numbers for discussion. Making the m1 bmw should have built.
let's say you bought a 135i w/dct used for 30k (maybe not yet, but soon). +3k lsd install +4k M3 suspension swap +3k turbo upgrade, either a swap or just bore out stocker +5k after market oil cooler, radiator, TBE, FMIC +3k wider rims/tires, maybe 255 275 width. =48k, m1/m3 eater with 425 whp on pump gas. im kinda a suspension noob but wouldn't you need to do custom body widening work to the fenders to fit the wider wheels? If the 1m allows wider wheels/tires stock that will be great advantage

The stock seats contain the side airbags so if you want to improve the seating towards M3 standards you either skip the side bags or spend lots of money for the sweet Euro option seats.
I priced out the diff upgrade at $3750 but the M3 / aftermarket suspension with camber plates at $3200. I'd run a square tire setup with any 1-series, so add $2000 for wide front fenders and a new front bumper (and +$1000 for paint?). So, now that you've figured out how to spent $50,000 on a car with 50,000 miles, how much is it worth 2 years later? If you spend $55,000 on a new 1M with 0 miles, how much is it worth 2 years later? Will be interested to see if we could order the fenders/bumpers from BMW and see if they would bolt right up. Could do a complete body swap for around 5k + paint.
Also, just a tune will get you to 1M power level. So throw in 1k for a reflash instead of your 8k for all those other engine parts. IMO the best part about this 1M is the looks. The performance, we already have that with mild upgrades.

I was going to spend a bunch of money on my 135 to make it's performance closer to that of a 1M, but then decided just to sell it as I wouldn't mind a completely new look without a sunroof. Of course who knows if they'll even change the appearance that much but you can be damned sure there ain't gonna be no sunroof I'll probably just wait till' 2014 when the new 1M comes out, all depends on how tight this car really is come summer 2011. turbo 4 or 6, that is the question |

You can get aftermarket lsd's for less than 3750.
what can you fit on 135i? i would think at least two size widths more than stock. You wouldn't have the seats true. Would be hella faster than m1 with turbo upgrade. I already included the price for rims/tires, nothing anyone's mentioned would add cost except if you wanted the seats. why would it have 50k miles, i always buy used cars the less than twenty, not difficult. I'm not going to do it, I just ordered a new x35d, I would do it before an m1 though. I'll be getting the next m1 or next m3... depending on how they turn out of course. |

I love the 1M and defiently my next car will be 1M or M3 withthin 3 years..
If want to build a 1M now, I do not think you have to go that crazy with the Mods. Dinan S3 package is around 10K.. add this to a 135 base (35K) and you will have a fun 400+ hp car for 45K.. it will not be the same on track compared to a 1M but honestly who cares?? you will not go to race tracks everyday and compete for fraction of seconds on the Lap time board.. http://www.dinancars.com/store/produ...cat=794&page=1 just my $0.02..

Quiafes are like $1300.
I'm sorry, but this is a stupid thread. Anybody who would spend $30k on a used car and then proceed to dump a further $18k into the car in an attempt to build something they (and only they) would call an "M1" should have their head examined. |

I think the the BEST thing about the new 1M will be that we can order some cool OE parts for our 135i's! Off the shelf bolt-ons that will work!
I bet BMW will be selling the LSD thru BMW Perf - like Dan has said they would. |

Yes, I'll bet the front fenders and bumper will be bolt-on to the 135i. You could do 245's all around. I wonder if the car would look funny with such wide front fenders and stock rears?

If you can order the fenders and they are bolt on... I will probably be doing this with new wheels/tires

What do you guys think will be the maintenance requirements for the 1M? Do you think BMW will require lower mileage oil changes? Will the LSD have lifetime fluid? Does the M3 have more aggressive/intensive maintenance requirements? |

If you can find a 135i with a bolted ring gear instead of a welded one, an LSD is a no brainer. I don't think that's possible, though:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=218499 http://evo-race.com/?q=node/90 Things have gotten cheaper, though, I apologize: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=305072 JD |

When was the first year a 135i dct came out? 2010? More I think about it the more I like this idea.... in about 3 years getting a low mileage example for 20k and buying many of the above listed upgrades as a discount from previous owners. Maybe you could build this brute for 30k three years from now? Couple lightweight seats and battery....... great track car. Would be very hard to beat for 30k. I know I sold all my 335i parts for around half of what they cost me......

How many 3er buyers have successfully/affordably bolted on M3 front and rear fenders? I've personally never seen it done.
