Should I be worried?
Something strange happened with my month-old 335 yesterday and I was hoping someone could tell me if I should be concerned.
I was trying to pull away from a stop sign when the car stalled (I'm pretty new to driving a stick so I screw up once in a while). My fiance hit the hazard button on the dash to alert the car behind us that we weren't moving, but I also think she hit the DTC button as well. At the same time she did this I was quickly trying to get the car started. It did, but when I drove away from the stop sign I got a message on the nav screen that said "engine malfunction" and "power reduced" and a bunch of other stuff that I can't recall right now (I was pretty freaked out, as you could probably imagine). The tach started bouncing wildly around and the car was sputtering. Luckily, we had just arrived at our destination so I was able to park the car and cut the power. I was fearing the worst when we returned to the car about three hours later. But when I started it up, everything was fine. No engine malfunction message and the car was idling smoothly. The hour-long drive home was as if nothing unusual had happened earlier in the day. I'm thinking that pressing the hazard and DTC buttons while I was quickly trying to get re-started "confused" the car and as a result it tried to protect itself by reducing power. What do you guys think? |

Dealer dude, it went into limp mode... which is odd.

Sounds like you're on target. I'd still take it to the dealership for a quick look. Can't hurt.

Yep, anything that says engine malfunction, I'd have it checked out. But, in all honesty, though I'm no expert and still learning about my car, I don't think there's anything to worry about.

I'd think it was a glitch and not worry about it if you don't see it again. Sometimes these cars benefit from a restart. The stall might have had something to do with it getting mad.

I would take it to the dealer anyways.
The car stores fault codes but only after X amount of starts if the problem went away. The worst thing would be if the problem came back and left you stranded. |

Find out what the fault code was.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could find out ourselves without taking it to the dealer? Might save the dealers hassle if we could.
