?'s about 2007 328i CPO

Hey everyone,

New here... Currently drive a 2008 Subaru Legacy 2.5i limited. I consider myself a 'car guy' and have always wanted a BMW 3-series. I'm fine with my Subie but there is a pretty deal in my area for this car:

2007 328i CPO, 33K miles, premium, sport, cold weather, comfort access
It's black on black.

Anyway, I have a few questions I hope someone can help answer:

1. What are the problem areas I should be looking at? Carfax is clean and maintenance history looks pretty typical.

2. It has option 0676 Hi-Fi Sound system. Is this just the basic system, or is it upgraded? What are the different stereo options available this year? I'm going to see the car in a few days (it's 4 hours away) and I know it has AUX-IN, but would it also have USB input? Is that standard or a separate option? The car does not have iDrive. I test drove a 2008 328xi today and I didn't try my ipod out in it using the AUX IN, but the stereo sounded decent, but lacked a little on the treble, even after adjusting the EQ.

3. I will need to get snow tires since I am in North Dakota (which is why I have a Subaru!!). Any recommendations? Would you go with 17" snows (since this car has sport package) or 16" snows?

That's all for now. I'm sure I'll have more questions later.

Thanks!
Andy

I just purchased a 07 328 and it only comes with aux input. Thing is it has idrive, I recommend idrive make sure it is Bluetooth compatible..mine wasn't sucks I know! But I love my e90! The USB connection I think the dealer can install for u. I don't know if they can do it with idrive but on non navi I'm sure it must be possible!

Also you should google RFT stands for Run Flat Tires and look on this board at the related posts on them.
The sound system delivered to the US as base in the is the HI Fi system(2006 to 2009 10 speakers) its covered in some of these threads and although its not really terrible (better than a base subaru BY FAR) its not outstanding either. The HK system that is optional is better . The HK premium system in the Subaru is better in my opinion. I was checking both out when this used e91 showed up. The logic 7 system is the other system which is a surround sound with more speakers and a more powerful amp.
Its expensive or hard to add to the stereo because of the size and ohm rating of the speakers and whats called the most bus which is an optical link for adding cd changers , hd radio, ipod interface(digital) etc..

I just bought an '07 328i CPO as well, same specs as yours minus CW pkg.

As for the AUX, I hook up my iPod through it and it sounds pretty good. I bought a cable that plugged into the iPod and then had both USB and mini-plug connections on the other end and a mini USB adapter to put into my cigarette lighter in the armrest. Then I bought some plexi-glass and made this cradle for it and ran the cable from the dash to the arm rest. I am happy with the sound quality and the setup, esp since I use my iPhone for navigation too.

PM me if you have any questions about the purchase or the setup.

Hi, I'm from Eastern Canada, we see a fair bit of snow up here. As if that make me an official on the subject I'll throw in my 2 cents.

I would recommend getting the smaller wheels and consequently narrower tires. Narrow tires are much better for snow, since they don't plow through and then float on the snow. They are better at just cutting a channel through it instead. Also the extra side wall is great for winter pot holes and other winter debris.

2005r6, where did you get your smaller wheels? Tire Rack? That's what I have been looking at so far. What width are you using that works well?

For the AUX IN, I can only go off what I know about my subaru. It has AUX IN in the arm rest, just like the BMW has. It actually sounds pretty decent but the head unit can't get very loud, the volume keeps going up with the dial, but the sound doesn't really get louder. I am 28 and don't need a big booming stereo anymore, but I will be really disappointed if it doesn't sound decent. At first I was thinking about putting a subwoofer I have leftover from my Lexus in the trunk and hooking it up to the back speakers, but then I read that the rear speaker cutoff is too high for that?

Anyone try adding a sub to the trunk to help fill in the sound?

Andy

Can I ask why you went with Run flat's for the winter tires? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just get some regular Blizzacks or something?

Probably could have. But there are run flats on the car now as summer tires and I decided to just do the same for winter. I could have gotten by with can of flat fixer and a pump I suppose. I have a newborn (1 week old) so I guess I'm just a over protective dad for a little while :-) Although for a $165 a pop it didn't seem to bad a price anyway, but yeah non-run flats would have been cheaper.

Garage List
2006 BMW 330i   [0.00]
The sport package puts larger brakes on the car, 17" diameter wheels are the smallest rim size that will fit on the car.
