AR Downpipes installation problem URGENT

Hi folks,

right now my shop is installing AR Design catted downpipes, but apparently they don't fit. The O2 sensor bungs are located in a wrong spot according to the shop

This shop already installed dps (catted and catless) on a fellow forum member's car, so I guess they know what they're doing.

Here are pics I received from the shop. Any advice??

The car is left hand drive.

The shop is the only one who worked on this part of the car, except for a turbo replacement last year at the dealership. I hope that o2 sim isn't seriously damaged.

I will give AR's phone number to the shop, but I'm in Europe and it's still early morning in the US.

Any more input?

its hard to tell from your pic, whats the problem? are the two sensors going to hit each other? are they "clocked" properly?

i have installed more ar dp's then i can count, and never had a single fitment issue, the sensors are close to each other by nature of the cramped space between the turbo's anyway, but i never had the bung's welded in the wrong spot.

as far as the sensor in the picture, someone really dented that thing good, i have seen it before, i can only assume its from the tech really pushing on the wrench to loosen the front o2 sensor, and when it breaks free, it hits the back 02 sensor hard enough to dent it. it may not be damaged internally, but considering the upper 2 o2 sensors help the car control fueling, it may be wise to just replace it now while everything is out in the open

Yes, the shop told me the o2 sensors would hit each other and that they would need to relocate (weld) the bungs. What could be the problem?

What advice can I give them by phone? Thanks already for your help. Greatly appreciated

the way that the dp's are mounted now "loosely" on the turbo clamps, the can be rotated until there is clearance between the 2 sensors. now of course thats assuming the dp's were made correctly, it looks like it will work, but i would have to see the bottom of the dp where it meet's the exhaust too. the turbo clamps arent fully closed, so either the shop left them loose for adjustments, or they dont have them on properly, and they are as tight as they can get.

I forwarded your answers to the shop, and they replied that they tried everything but they can't rotate the downpipes enough to get the o2 sensors out of each other's way. They even tried to make a few millimeters space by denting the sensor

I'll take a look at the car this evening, even if the work may only be completed tomorrow. They also install the AR Oil cooler and the Procede.

The shop is quite reputable. And since they've already done the same job on another car I thought everything would work out flawlessly

well i really wish you the best of luck, i'm sorry i couldnt offer more advise, hopefully andrew can offer some more for you guys. i don't have much confidence in it being the dp's made wrong after the shop said they "dented" the sensor for more clearance. keep us updated, i am very curious as to what the problem may be

wtf? dude you must let them replace ur o2 sensor! they fucked up. samething happened to me few months ago, my shop kinked my front o2 by dropping the downpipe. but we are all close buddys so no biggie, ended up they paid $3xx(yeah canada sux) for the sensor for me and i paid 30 bux for beer lol.
anyway back to topic, theres NO WAY that AR will not fit. but theres is a little difference fitment between 07s and 09s, dont know about other yrs, 07s have more clearance than 09s thats all, however they all FIT GOOD. so my only guess is your shop sucks. let them replace the sensor and find another shop.

btw: do u have an XI by any chance?

Surprising that the DPs don't fit as the same shop installed my first catless AR design DPs a bit more than a year ago without any problems. Granted it was a tight fit but it worked.

I would be equally surprised though if there was a design issue with the DPs as there are hundreds who have them installed without any problems.

Crossing fingers you'll get it sorted...!

Those are not SIMs (simulators). Those are the real oxygen sensors!

ik that, but im guessing the has o2 sims for his downpipes. and it doesnt look like BMS sells them anymore.

But you defiantly need to make them replace your sensors.

There is only 1 O2 Simulator that you need to install and it is installed in the ECU compartment, not on the downpipes.

Yes, BMS still sells them and they work fantastic! I have one and it works like a charm on my fully catless exhaust system.

http://www.burgertuning.com/dpfix.html

OP,
This looks rather weird! Best thing to do is to give Andrew a call and most probable he will be able to sort out the issue real quick. Their downpipes are top-notch and the fitment is great!
