335i SE E90 DEPOSIT
Just about to place an order for 335 e90 and dealer wants 10% deposit. Seems quite high, i thought that £1000 was the standard?
Any thoughts? BTW - Sparkling Graphite or Montego Blue? |

Dealers ask for between 5% and 20% depending on (in their own words) how 'unique' the car is (i.e. how easily they'll be able to sell it if the buyer pulls out).
10% doesn't seem that high. I spec'd a simple car, paid 5% then respec'd it a day later. When it came to taking delivery the salesman admitted he was relieved I didn't back out... |

10% is high. £1000 is plenty.
i just told my dealer to take my word for it or forget it and he said ok. I had a sparkling graphite one and it was great. Howevere i have just ordered a second one and this time im going sapphire black as i saw one in the showroom and it looks much nicer. The blue is nice but looks a bit "old man'ish" for a sports car. |

My dealer has always asked for £500 deposit (when I bought the MINI it was £250).

Each to their own, but my last three cars have all been blue and it will always be my first colour choice.

i gave £1k deposit to secure the build slot...
however certain online dealers (drive the deal) like to get the price of the options chosen up front. I suppose they think they can sell the basic car day in day out but the options might not suit the market if you drop out for any reason.

Pay what you think its worth to secure the deal. I would have thought £500 is enough to be honest though.

I remember looking at a new Porsche Boxster about a year ago, and the dealer basically wanted a deposit of £2000 up front, and after the spec had been chosen, the deposit would be increased to 10% of the vehicle cost. There are just too many things that put me off buying a Porsche (like having to pay for having the Porsche logo on the centre of the alloys in colour )

The 24 month warranty really bothered me. Having the Porsche badge at the centre of the alloys in colour was about an extra £100! Also, I think the cheapest leather seat option is actually called 'partial leather' - not all parts of the seat are in leather.

Without some sort of extenuating circumstance like quick delivery, a massive discount or you wanting it painted pink it seems steep.
Deposit on my 320d was £500 (about 2%). For 10% I'd want to have something tangible to take away like the wheels

10% is excessive. £1k is the most I've ever been asked to put down. Having said that I was only asked to put down £500 on the e93 I'm currently waiting for.
If the dealer won't budge, phone around a few more and see what they want. You may even get a better deal if they have unsold allocation. Miopyk |
