Install BMW Performance Exhaust at Non-Dealer Shop?

Is there any issue installing a BMW PE purchased from Tischer at my favorite local muffler shop? I'm sure the dealer wouldn't honor warranty work if "they" didn't do it, but still...

I think the PE takes like 30 min to install, but I've heard they quote up to 3 hrs labor. My local shop will do it for probably $100 total...

Thoughts? Is the PE even worth it or should I go full catback aftermarket? I like the PE sound, but not the power gains or price.

PE is def worth it. If its installed right, it probably wont cause any problems that require the warranty.

You're paying just for the sound with this exhaust piece. Nothing more nothing less, I do like my pe..but is it worth the 1400/1700 imo? Hell no!!! I got mine for free, trying to sell it atm.

I love it, the sound is a fantastic upgrade. It really completed the car for me. Now I feel like I am driving the car I have always wanted to drive (within reason for a DD of course )

As for install, warranty should be fine. I almost didnt get mine done at a dealer and they said if I took it elsewhere it wouldnt have any bearing against warranty work. Its just mufflers on the e92.

But the sound.........trust me, others will chime in here and push you off a cliff like they did me

If you have a trusted muffler shop which is cheaper than the dealership, of course you should install it at that shop. There is no welding involved...you can even do it at home

Don't you have to cut the old exhaust off? What actually comes in the PE kit? Just mufflers and tips?

Furthermore, could I get a quote from my dealer to just install and buy it from Tischer? I know my dealer is going to charge more for the PE than Tischer, but I don't know if they'll install if I don't buy it there.

As a local independent BMW shop, we install the BMW Performance exhaust for customers all the time. There is no reason not to use your local indy shop to save a few bucks over the dealers high prices

Okay lets clear this up:
E90: Catback exhaust. A pretty simple swap. Expensive.
E92: Basically mufflers. Involves cutting and attaching with clamps. Cheaper
Sounds really great. Minimal power gains for both.

Yes. They don't care. They'll just charge you for labor.

I personally got the dealer installed option with the BMW CCA discount for both part and labor. The total cost of the exhaust with labor was the price of exhaust being offered by Tischer.
You can shop around with any BMW dealer. Just get the cheapest.

as long as the independent shop follows the instructions that are included with the exhaust, there is zero problem. your parts warranty is still intact.. and the dealer should honor any claims against workmanship or parts defect -- they will not honor it if the independent does anything out of spec..

its a straight cut on the pipes (and the exhaust has *marks* where to cut) and two clamps to secure the pipes..

sounded a little flimsy to me @ first ... but when i say the clamps.. it was a different story.. these clamps are also used when a cat converter fails --
the cat is cut out and the new one goes on with these clamps -- so its proven technology.. albeit simple .. effective and lasts.

So I can get the E92 335i PE for $1,395 shipped from Rischer (No tax, free shipping)...should I just confirm with my dealer on install price and do it? Seems like a big savings over dealer. I was quoted $1,681 for just parts at my local dealer. Plus, I'll have to pay tax on it there...

I don't see a real benefit of having it installed at the dealer. Very rare for an exhaust to cause any major problems. Paid about 100 at a good local shop
