n55 Muffler delete after one week..

Well I'm not sure if I like the tone or not. My 1/4 suffered a bit after I had it done. Seems like the car takes longer to spool up. However I did the "golf tee" mod and the car does seem to spool up a lot quicker now. Not sure why.

Pre MD I would launch my car around 1500rpms. Anything over that and the wheels were spinning. Post MD the car had to be launched at around 2k rpms or else I would have horrible 60' times. I haven't gone back after the "golf tee" mod. I just might go in a week or two. Gonna let the car rest for awhile.

Pre golf tee it sounded horrible. Not sure if the muffler shop messed anything up, but the flange would rattle as it opened and closed. It sounded funny because you would hear the tone then when you let off the gas it just went mute. My girl at the time said it sounded like a lawnmower.

I have the video at work. I'll try and post it today.

My 2cents...
Less backpressure caused by the muffler felete may make your turbos take longer to spool...
With a tune I think you would see gains by deleting your muffler...

I guess I'm new at this but, how is it that doing a muffler delete with a tune would help better gains? Is it due to the tune calculating the decrease in back pressure?

Your essentially increasing the airflow a good deal over stock which isnt accounted for/adjusted by the MAF therefore if you get it tuned for the increased airflow your going to maximize your gains

This is like the bllind leading the blind
From what I read, a tune would benefit from a free flowing exhaust because of the increase in pressure created by the tune. More exhaust pressure, would logically increase the need for exhaust flow to maintain the correct ratio of backpressure and exhaust release.
Or I could be completely wrong... You should really wait til an expert chimes in.

It's pretty well documented that reducing backpressure on a turbocharged car is only a positive thing (Either Shiv or Eric posted a whitepaper from Garett Turbo showing this).

With that said, I think you're experiencing lag induced by the DME. There's probably some unforeseen feedback loop with vavletronic that's preventing you from realizing a performance gain.

Less backpressure->quicker spool/more airflow at a lower RPM->valvetronic reduces lift/changes timing->you experience lag

...or something like that.

Removing back pressure will always benefit spool. Removing backpressure is key in any turbo exhaust.

Sooo... If the DME is causing the issue, the only way to benefit from removal of 2nd Cats, Installation of an Aftermarket DP, Muffler Delete, or any other type of performance mod, you'd need a tune...

Doesn't the muffler delete make the golf tee mod impossible? Or does the section with the valve remain in the tips?

The valve system remains in the tips. But for some reason, not sure if they didn't put the tips exactly right, but after a few start ups the valve became lose and would rattle under acceleration. So I pulled the plug in the trunk and it sounds pretty loud....

It makes a huge difference. Well at least on the MD. But I'm not liking my 1/4 mile times now. If a tune does make it better with a MD than without I'll leave it off.

i doubt any of these things (MD or golf tee mod) have anything to do with what you are feeling and with track times. golf tee mod only affects sound and a muffler is just that...a muffler....it muffles sound. has nothing to do with anything else really.
