Tire pressure monitering

Hey guys,

I am thinking of upgrading my wheels for the summer. If I buy aftermarket wheels, am I going to have any problems with tire pressure moniterirng?

What do I have to look at when I get my new set?

Thanks

I believe the tire pressure sensor is implaced in the wheel housing of the OEM wheels. So if you replace your wheels then yes, bye bye wheel pressure monitor.

It will still works on normal tyres.

The pressure monitoring service will still works. So no to worry. I changed mine to normal tyres and the alarm "sounded" when I have a nail on my rear tyres.

Depends on the model of car. Search thru the forum, there is a difference between whether you are using the rotational difference method, I think related to DSC/DTC, where you won't have a problem after you reset the sensor.

If your car has rubber valve stems, no problem. If they are aluminum and bolted to the wheel, you will need sensors and valve stems (around $180) Or, do what I did and swap them over. MAKE sure your new wheels are TPMS compatible. Most are, but some are not. If you buy from tirerack.com, they will help either getting new sensors (they carry them) or let you know if your new wheels are compatible.
