Called in my dealer today. They gave me a quote on changing front brake rotors, pads and a sensor. Quote is around 660 usd.

An independent shop with non OEM parts (Brembo mind you) is around 300 usd. SO i'm facing a dilema. Should I change the bloody things at independent shop or at dealer?

here's what I'm gonna pay for at dealer:
- Brake disks -- USD 130 x 2
- pads (x4) -- USD 250 for pack that has 4 pads in it
- sensor - USD 32

With work at around 80 bucks, it will be nearly 660 USD.

Independent offers Brembo disks, Oem fitment, plus Brembo or Ferodo pads. All for around half that with labour. No mention of the frigin sensor though....

I thought if difference would have been around 100 bucks i'd go OEM route but twice the difference? What would you do? Is 660 for brake replacement makes sense? That sound like mighty expensive.

not sure about them being brembo but could be... i know that rims are thought by everyone to be BBS but actually they aren't all of them. Smaller sizes like 17s and all of 16s to the best of my knowledge are Borbets.

so you reckon that taking the brembos instead of oem for 320d is actually a better bet? I dont know if they all weight differently or material is worse or better..

Are you sure about this price?
A quick check shows ~$98 for a set of rear pads and ~$160 for a set of front. I didn't check Tischer, I would imagine they are even cheaper: http://www.getbmwparts.com/

Thats what it costs here in the US for a 3 series... Its pricey, but they are fantastic brakes

that's dealer qoute over the phone. Seems ridiculous high, i agree...

The only one out of wack is the pads for $250 but for strange reason they only charge $80 for labor?(I expect more unless they can do it in .5 hour maybe).

In any rate the front pad sets has 4 pieces, 2 pads to sandwich each rotor.

supposedly it contains some other crap, it's a 'kit'. :S pair of pads is around 50 bucks here from independent (brembo or ferodo, supposedly they think ferodo is better a bit).

I purchased the pads online and used stock rotors and sensors for my wife's '06 325xi. Totaly parts front and rear were about $550.
I did the install myself and saved $700 from what the stealership wanted for the parts and labor. It's not too difficult to do yourself. The first wheel will take a while, but the second one goes much quicker once you get the hang of it. Biggest bitch is installing the pads into the piston.
