TV function now an option

I see that BMW for their current M3 spec has now made the TV function an option, the first time since 2001. I guess that they have spec'd these cars so high now that they still need options for buyers to tick and think that the TV should now be an option. However I think it is poor to step back and make once standard items now an option without giving something back shall we say.

Up to the individual I guess. I've only used the TV once in the 9 months I've had the car, and even then it was for about 5 minutes (to watch the footy while I waited for someone). But had it been an option, I wouldn't have ordered it.

Come to think of it, I would have preferred more features as option deletes, such as:

heated seats
retractable seat belts
electrically adjustable seats

A backward step IMHO. It's been deleted from the LCI X5 so I didn't order it.

Regarding heated seats...I used to think they were a waste of time until the recent cold snap we had here in the West. Now I can't go without the toasty buns in the morning. In fact, one of the major reasons I bought the Kisashi XLS was because it came with heated seats......though not as good as the M3 ones!

I agree electric seats are a waste of time and money.

Maybe it's just me, but I actually hate the heated seats because they feel like sitting on a warm toilet seat someone just vacated. Cold seats FTW!

Agreed - I think it is backward - the one thing that I loved about this car is that it had most of the options as standard!

Definitely not happy that they are doing this kind of thing!

I retrofitted heated seats to my E46 M3 and now that I have had them I couldn't go without them. I used TV a bit and had TV on the move in my E46 and would definately order it. It is poor that they strip standard features out and don't adjust the price, particularly when the dollar is so strong to the Euro.

Agreed. Funny, after my post above on option deletes, I see that from September, the M3 is being offered with one of the option deletes I made reference to above - namely, sports seats (non electric). I would definitely have ordered this!

Use for TV

I got the TV tuner as standard when I ordered my car. I didn't think it would be much use, but turns out if I ever am early for a meeting, or waiting for the wife, I can watch TV. Would I pay for it as an option, no.
