1M Coupe LSD onto 335?

So its pretty much clear that the 1M Coupe is official and that it will have an LSD.

Do you think the LSD will be a direct swap for 335I?

...gonna think this is dependent on how close the gearing is to that of the 335. But direct factory bolt-ons.

It will probably not be sold seperately... And even if it was, by the time they become main stream enough to pick at a junk yard their will be an LCI F30 lol.

Based on source at my countries BMW parts department the following is the approach that BMW is taking regarding LSD's / differentials:

All differentials are to refurbished upon defect, only BMW hq is repairing them. By the way as far as I know, BMW's LSD's are fabricated by Drexler, Germany.

So only complete systems can be ordered......

I found this out during my LSD install while I needed specific parts and could not get them, Drexler at the end helped me out...

So unless they start doing things differently, you essentially re-affirm my previous statement... This won't be happening until there are a bunch of crashed 1M's littering the junkyards.

You can always get the diff at Drexler themselves. Some here on the forum have already done that with a 335i and are very happy with it. Probably slightly better than the Quaife, albeit more expensive and needs more maintenance.

I would be willing to bet the 1M will have the whole M rear suspension and subframe like the M3. it would be the most cost effective way for BMW to do things. so well be in the same boat as we are now

Good point. I agree, I don't think they will make it simple for non-m owners to order an M part and put it in their non-m car. Driveshaft and half shaft lenghts will probably be different just to start. Just a guess.

I dont think they will have the same componets but it would be cool if they did.

I might just order a pumpkin with my car club discount once the part number is available.

Based on the appearance of it, it's the M3 diff. They certainly look identical, but it's possible that they only have identical cooling fins.

Tough to say until they release specs, which is probably late September at the IAA. I may just have to go and see, I have friends that live just outside of Frankfurt. Last time I went to the IAA, it was when the debuted the 6, and it was a truly impressive autoshow. Makes anything I've been to in the US look amateurish by comparison.

My guess is N54 with different manifolds, exhaust, and possibly a slightly bigger turbo. Maybe just a slightly larger coolside. I imagine they'll probably try to do something to shift the powerband up a little. Maybe better breathing combined with better cooling, maybe different valve lift/duration profiles, maybe just more flow.

From what one can hear, the new 1M will "only" have around 340hp, maybe slightly more. You certainly don't need bigger turbos for this kind of power. My guess is they'll re-use the modifications for the 335is with some additional tweaks and call it a day.

Probably slightly better than the Quaife : yes
albeit more expensive : not that much if you have a welded ringgear
needs more maintenance : Drexler says no maintenance needed (except when you are only racing with it) I will put some new oil in once a year and call it a day. Don't forget that a M-LSD also have clutches and are not known to need maintenance.

let's see the coming year

But there are many people (myself included) that don't even think about swapping only the gearing assembly, but the entire "pumpkin". And as far as I know the 1-series diff fits the 3-series (or am I wrong ?).

Once the car is launched, there will be a parts catalog which would surely include the rear differential. It will not be more than 3 months after the car is launched in Europe.

The only problem (for me) is for the M1 to include a manual gearbox version...in order for the M1 diff to have the same gearing as the 335i manual.

But there are many variables right now...we will wait and see

Drive to Drexler in south east of Germany and they do the full install. No issue.

So then it would be an M car that only revs to 7K?

The S52/S50 in the E36 M3 only revs to 6.5K stock.

They use to have a special rate for the 335 diff. That was 2 months ago, made it cheaper then quaife.

Installation time is about 4-6 hours, if I'm right.

Worth all money!
