Real Estate for Turbo Upgrades

I'm wondering why the idea of mounting a single turbo farther down the exhaust system hasn't been tested. It's obvious that cramming a turbo into the real estate next to the engine is very limited, although AR's prototype does look very promising, having a great design and it appears to have enough exhaust flow to push plenty of boost.

These rear mounted turbos might be able to offer less expensive and more simple solutions.. I would think the system would utilize aftermarket headers intended for 328s, and would obviously need custom designed plumbing for the intake and charge. Imagine the lower intake temps as well.

This might also be a good idea for some 328 turbo kits...

remote turbos have been discussed... But they are a bit laggy and I think they would work better under the hood.. It was just a matter of doing it.

Top mount would be a bit less laggy & less complex, plumbing-wise.
