cross shopping 118d vs 120d 5-door hatchback

Hi, i posted a question on purchasing a 1'er diesel on the europe forum, but had no responses. I thought I would have better luck here.

I have about a 100km commute involving mostly autobahn and some nice back roads. Always loved the 1 hatchback and now that i'm in germany its a great opportunity to try one out.

so whats the differences over the years on the 118d and 120d? Any particular model to look for or avoid? I was looking at
123d as well, but it looks too expensive for my purpose.

I would like to find a white one, 5-doors, manual, heated seats, no i-drive. any suggestions on where to find one would be appreciated too. I'm in the Nürnberg area. Mostly I have been searching on mobile.de

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

-Jim

Newbie here but I think that in Oz the 118d has superseded the 120d.
I drove both a couple of months back and they both drove well. The 120d had the M-sport package. I ended up buying the 123d hatchback and do not regret it one little bit - if you can afford that little bit extra I would certainly advise you to get the twin turbo - it is a pocket rocket! Mine is white with sports auto. Love it. Fast little bugger and miserly with fuel (so 5.5 lts/100 klms)

I think the 123d only started in Australia in November or December last year. Been pretty busy of late and need to take some pics. Sorry none yet.

Hi!

Go for the newer model of the 120d, the old one had 163hp and the new one has 177hp. The old ones you can get without DPF, so make sure if you get one that it has one.

Otherwise the 2litre engine is nice and powerful and goes to 100kmh in a 7.sec range.

Ps. Nice taste in your cars colours, AW and red cannot be beaten.

HeyHo,

i drove an 118d (pre FL / 122PS) ... its okay but i would buy an 120d (177PS Version) and get it chipped (200/210PS = 700-900€).

yea... I 2nd Marco's advice. Get the 120d.

or try: www.autoscout24.de

Hi karussell,
I own a 118d for 2 years now and still very pleased with it!
If you don't want to spend too much money and still go fast, it's a good option. If you miss hp, you can always "add" some more for a fraction of the cost of getting the 120d and still be reliable.
Take care...

There was a facelift in March 2007 and then the 120d went from 163 to 177hp. Go with the M sports if you are not worried about the stiff suspension. At least in Sweden, M sports on the 120d is a must to preserve a high residual value on the second hand market.

118d or 120d are both good options.
the important is going to the LCI version
The 123d started sails end 2007
