I was driving along and...
So im on my glorious ride back from Ithaca NY, to Long Island and on I80 doing about 85-95 miles an hour the tire pressure monitor comes on. Hmm I didnt hit anyhting as I can remember. But then I did remember that I recently changed from the RFT's to snow tires. So I pushed the SOS to try and get some answers and to see what I should do about carrying on my journey. The woman on the line was helpful and kind of calmed me down because as you all can imagine no one likes to spend 1000 on tires one week and then have to replace a flat the next!!! I checked the pressure before I left because I was hauling some bags and passengers back with me, and because the temperature was about 25 degrees. Now that im back home I rechecked my pressure and there all 35, and 36psi like instructed on the driver door sill. Now im at a loss because before something else goes wrong I want to figure out what it is thats wrong!
Any ideas?? |

she told me to check the pressure when all of the bags and people are out and see if any of the tires are low. If they aren't it could be a faulty monitor because of the re install of the new tires. And if all else fails call customer service to reset the warning lamp. Its closed now so i'll have to call but im still curious what set it off...

First, your car doesn´t have a tire pressure monitor. You have a flat tire monitor which is different. It doesn´t monitor tire pressure but changes relative to other tires (to put this in overly simple terms).
Are you sure that whoever put the RF snow tires/wheels on set the Flat Tire system properly?

Well, the first thing you have to do after changing the tires is to initialize the tire pressure monitor again for your new tires.

Well thats the thing, I re initialized the system right when i left the lot like the shop told me to.. Im almost 99% sure the system was installed properly. It just seems weird to me that the monitor would register a flat when there is no obvious evidence of a flat.. Ill have to call in tomorrow to try to get the code erased and then re initialized the system. Thanks for your input guys

tire pressures always fluctuate (fall) in color temperatures as well... i remember driving my rx8 during the winter, and my tpms warning lights kept coming on... after hard driving, it went away, but occasionally returned.
could've just been the temperature. |

with the temperature dropping, all the tires would drop a similar amount... the system measures left/right wheelspeed differential, so i doubt temperature should trigger it, unless something was quite broken

Got my car with OEM winter wheels mounted, so I guess everything was installed correctly. I checked the tire pressure and initialized the system. 2 days later the warning came on. I simply reset the system and no faults since.

I called customer service, and Deanna told me how to reset the light with a few ticks on the menu cluster... So as for now there is no flat, slow leaking flat or anything like that. She said it was most likely not reset when my new tires were installed and by me re initializing it, it didnt change it. All is well now!
