E9X looks dated already.. Anyone else?
I never thought about this when I see my car, but I realized this whenever I saw other E9Xs on the road. Sedan or coupe, they both look dated to me. Maybe because I had this car for nearly 6 years (this October). Well, It has been how long since the E46s came out? They still look good to me. They do look dated now of course, but I'm talking about average rate of looking-dated.
Since the E36 (or some might say even previous models), I was fan of BMW due to their "Timeless" design and some other characteristics. It is quite hard for a design studio to design a vehicle with timeless styling in mind. I believe timeless design comes from keeping originality, yet combining modern, next generation styling to it. I was actually NEVER a huge fan of E9X design compared to previous models. Don't get me wrong, I still have A LOT of love for the E9X, there is a reason why I'm keeping it for friggin' 6 years. However, I find myself not being able to argue back when a E46er say such things, because I agree with them. I remember when I was shopping for an E46, I never thought about "when is the next model coming out?". With the E9X, I'm anxious to see what the next model is going to look like. It is a fact that E9X design didn't receive as much compliment and praises as earlier models. What are your opinions? Please don't post dumb stuff like "then get a new car" or "you trippin' dawg". Let's discuss about the design (what you didn't like, what flaws are there, etc) and what made E9X as not as timeless looking as the previous models.

I think the lines on this car are as beautiful as the first time I saw it.

The lines definitely. BTW I still hate E92s and E93s with a passion. They are ugly as balls.
However I still love seeing E46 M3s and 330ci's. They still hold that classic BMW design that you can trace back to 2002's, but not so with E9xs, they don't look like BMW's. |

I don't think the E92 looks dated, but after having the '10 328 loaner for more than a week, the older E90 looks a little less attractive from the rear.
If a E92 looks dated, how does the brand-new 535 look? It has the XC90 nose, as does the new 7. And unlike older BMWs it came in 3rd in the comparo, from of all places, C&D who are the ultimate BMW fanboys. BMW is clearly headed down the wrong path with what they're doing. They are smug, yes, but so was BP until the recent turn of events. |

+1 Don't think the E92 looks dated yet, but the pre LCI E90 does to me though.

Personally for me its the loss of the box, straight cut look. BMW is trying too hard to make it aerodynamic. And unless there is a kit is on, doesn't look aggressive enough....then again, I see e90s 24/7 so anything different is a nice change.

E90/91 LCI is about as perfect as a currently-produced sports sedan gets in my book. I liked the pre-LCI cars a lot, but the LCI changes improved on many already-good elements. The coupes are about as perfect as it gets too.
The E9x design may be 5+ years old now, but it still looks good. F30 will be well timed though, with Audi stepping things up in the design department.

The Msport LCI's look awesome. The biggest "dated" look are the interiors w/o navi dash from a distance.

I really like the side-profile of the e90. Nice and rakish.

E90/E91 pre-LCI is really outdated IMO, but E90/E91 LCI is nice and timeless (well, the rear still has room for improvement). While the E92/93 LCI is a step backward, the pre-LCI is no doubt a masterpiece.

Pre-LCI or not, they both look equally dated. I don't see how LCI is looking better than Pre-LCI at all. vice versa.
Then again, I own pre-LCI. I can't say im unbiased. E9X just wasn't bmw's master piece. I didn't keep the E9x this long because of the looks anyway. It was the driving experience and handling dynamics. Don't take it as I'm crying about it. I love this car and I will be sad when I let it go. Actually, I had it long enough.

I think the pre-LCI E90 is straight ugly. The rear lights look silly (and sillier with black lines) and the front is extremely bad, particularly due to the amber chevron-shaped signals and kidney grille borders that are spread into the hood (which is also what makes the E63/E64 look retarded). The LCI looks amazing, though.
