Does anyone know if I need smog test?

so i was reading DMV site...i wasn't 100% clear on what they were saying.

Do I need smog test or not? My car was registered in Illinois an year ago and it was "moved" from Illinois to Cali. I know you do need smog test if you "bought" the car out-of-state and registering it here for the first time.

can anyone confirm this?

I think the DMV will answer that question when you register it in CA. From what I remember, smog will be required if: transfer of title, new California registration, standard periodic registration.
