no snow chains on any e90 w/ sport packages?

I was looking into buying some z cables for the snow and i was looking in the owner's manual and it said to not put chains on any of the tire sizes that come with the sport package. has anyone done this with out a problem yet?

Chains? I guess you get a ton of snow in the mountains but if its to the point of needing chains (blizzaks won't suffice) how could the car have enough clearance? Wouldn't you need an SUV?

I saw that pic!

A8, is it? (Looks like the A8L, no less!)
C'mon, open that checkbook and get an SUV- I know you have the money.
Look at that stone work!
Just kidding- I believe there are clearance issues.
In your pic, it looks like you do not have the Sport Pkg- is that the case?

Should have no issues. Sport package on an xi doesn't come with the staggered setup.

My 330xi with sport specifically has chain instructions in the manual.

yeah, we get a lot of snow up here. I don't have the sport package but i was wanting to upgrade my wheels to a size that is pretty much the same as the sport package wheels, and i wanted to know if i could use chains on them.

I don't know if this helps or not.

The "factory" snow chains. RUD brand

If I was in your situation, with snow so bad you need chains, I'd start with an aggressive studded or studless snow tire, THEN add chains.

Don't use CHAINS. use CABLES --as you mentioned... those scc z-cables are absolutely fine. The chains won't clear the wheel wells... I've used cables on my sport package tires already... although I have an xi, so I have slightly more wheel-well clearance than non-xi's...

I didn't get snow tires yet, so I had to bust out the chains this last trip to tahoe.

it's usually not a good idea to put chains on any car with low profile tires....it will work....but most likely nick and scratch up the rims pretty badly....
