my new car.....M3 first impressions.....
It’s been a busy couple of days! Finally found an M3 that I was happy with that was in similar condition to my pristine E46. Had it delivered from Liverpool on Friday but only had the car two minutes when a removal van driver scuffed the door mirror. He admitted full blame and will pay for the mirror cap to be removed and resprayed, ie a proper job. I got van white paint off the mirror so looks OK for now.
Moving on, wow what a car, it’s feels so planted and so relentless in the way it keeps accelerating even into 3 figure speeds ……I’m going to have to be careful! It’s a 57 plate in jerez black with fox red and I love the colour combo. It was a BMW demo car and the seller (2nd owner) owned it since April 08. I saw three other M3s before this and this car is night and day better than those supposedly immaculate examples. It’s now done 13,500 miles with full BMW history inc running in service and in April this year an oil, filter, micro filter and air filter plus visual inspection was carried out. . It comes with all receipts, service prints and BMW Approved pack. Paintwork has a few small stonechips but much less than the other cars I viewed. It has been well looked after no swirl marks, engine bay is clean and so too is underneath with no surface rust. Inside is spotless with just a little wear on the driver’s seat bolster which I’ll get done. Alloy wheels are almost perfect with just two tiny chips on the spokes. Boot is spotless too. It’s fully loaded with the following options 19” alloys EDC Power fold mirrors Adaptive headlights Bluetooth with telematics and voice control Carbon leather trim DAB Logic 7 professional 6CD USB Extended storage Ski hatch Heated seats Sliding armrest Front and rear PDC High gloss shadow line I bought the car via TG Brokers who I can recommend for great service, no pressure sales and were a pleasure to deal with. The car had finance which they paid off on Monday and I had written confirmation of this from the Finance company. HPi was updated and clear Friday morning before I paid for the car. First thing I did was drive to Sytner in Harold Wood to pick up some black grills and jerez black touch up stick all sorted out by Anneka and Dean at Sytner who were brilliant. I then washed the car on Friday, took it for a quick spin to dry and remove surface rust on discs before putting it in the garage. Saturday whilst garaged, I went over it with a clay bar (I thought they were just a gimmick before) and could not believe how much dirt and contaminants came off the paintwork. The bar was going brown so quickly. I did the whole car inc wheels and it was as smooth as a baby’s bum. I then mop polished it with Farecla and removed some scratches etc. Next was Meguiars NXT and then Autoglym paint sealant. The wheels were waxed then sealed, ditto the exhaust tips. I spent over 10 hours on it and the wife was not pleased. I have the interior to do next but that will be much quicker. The paintwork looks so much bluer now and the whole car sparkles……..I’ll get some picks up soon but have been driving it a lot. I cannot believe how different it feels to my E46 330 which had 248bhp. The car is so planted, hardly any roll even in comfort and the grip is astonishing. I love the steering feel and the engine is glorious. G/box is like my E46, in that 1st to 2nd fast changes have to be spot on to be 100% smooth. I’m still getting used to the biting point of the clutch as it’s so much lower than I had before so I end up letting it fully engage before I’ve matched the engine revs on down changes. This car makes me feel really special and I’m loving it. I feel proud and lucky to own an M3 and the wife likes it too. I love how, steering , suspension and throttle map can be soft and comfy for town driving but then all hell breaks loose when the ‘M’ button is pressed! There is no clonking or grinding noises with the car either except when I mess up downchanges to 2nd gear as per above. Updated Oct 2010 - since changing the clutch and dual-mass flywheel the gearbox is much more positive, direct and the changes are now smooth as I can feel the biting point of the clutch. Changing gears now feels mechanical and solid and it's a pleasure to use. I’m very pleased with the Logic 7 too. My last car had a £2k custom install but the sound with logic 7 is very good with plenty of depth and bass and I feel no need to change it. With the bonnet bulge I find it hard to judge where the left front of the car is, particularly where the wheels are but I’ll get used to it. Cheers for reading Anthony Last edited by Ant Man; 10-23-2010 at 04:58 PM.. |

Looks very nice mate. Trying to get a loaded 335 with the equivalent colour combo too. The best IMO. Really makes the car.
You forgot to blank the audi plate in one of the pics |

Congratulations, that does look gorgeous. Can you post some pictures of the interior please?
Also, don't forget to update your profile .. it still says "Looking for an immaculate M3", and I think you've found one...
