Also, if your car was bought for you for Christmas or by your rich parents don't post in this thread.

I financed my car by myself.
I don't have anything against people who were handed their BMW's. I have no jealousy whatsoever towards that. Don't need added stress lol. |

wow, everyone is really upset about the whole rich parents thing... (personally, I have worked since i was 14, paid for my own cars...)
All I can say is... people with rich parents ussually end up being rich themselves... eventually on their own income... so whats the big deal about getting a leg up? |

no one so far is upset except E90T, who thinks that people having cars bought for them are somehow not worthy Quote:

Put about 1/2 down (slightly less) and financed the rest.
I was going with Capital One, but a friend asked me why I wasn't doing a credit union. So I got 5.75% with the credit union, and the dealer beat that with 5.5% for 63 mos. Wonder what would have happened if I told the dealer I got something lower with the credit union, they probably would have beat that again. Very interesting to me, that one can even negotiate an interest rate. |

Wow everyone needs to calm down.
E90T may have made a broad statement that is not always true, but there are certainly a lot very good and respectable people out there with his same feelings. I don't think he was personally attacking anyone. On-the-other hand, all the guys that resort to flaming him, I think are the ones with insecurity problems. There is no need to call him or anyone else an "ass". Why don't we follow the forum rules. I makes for a much more enjoyable experence. As for me, I leased my 335, but I could have paid cash. I did it because it seemed like the best thing to do from a TOC perspective and an opportunity cost perspective. |

Last car I owned was a 1985 Peugeot 505 Turbo. I started leasing after that. I started working with a financial advisor after that.
Last time I asked my financial advisor what to do, it was very interesting. It was when the lease on my first GTI was ending and I was looking into getting the second one (which is the one I'm replacing now). My advisor recognizes that cars are important to me, and has never tried to talk me out of them. I figured he'd say that my best bet was to buy it using a home-equity line. Nope. His reply, "You like to get new cars every few years. Lease this one. At the end, it just goes back to them, and you don't have to worry about what it's worth and having to sell it. It's easier." He was right. The car goes back to Volkswagen on February 12, and I don't have to worry about it. The point here is that the right answer is that there is no one right answer. It depends on your tastes, preferences, biases, budget, etc.
