Patrick BMW no longer with Dinan

SO I stopped into Patrick BMW in Schaumburg, who I have been using since moving to Evanston, and the SA just told me that they are separating from Dinan. Perhaps due to problems with support between Dinan and BMW, especially with BMW's decision to hardline all modifications on the 335i.

I have not heard of limited support for the N54 engine as a replacement for the new N55. Anyone have any ideas?

Hey, what do you mean by hardline the mods?

I called and left a msg some time ago at Patrick for their Dinan rep and never got a call back. I called the first time to Laurel, and got their guy right away, so they are still in the program.

Hey, if I recall you are fairly new to the BMW modding world? If I have you confused with someone else I apologize.

Not to start the same old tuner argument here....but....

There are very good and valid reasons for paying the Dinan upgrades and I think that we have hashed and rehashed the cost/benefits of this decision.

But because I think you are new (again apologies), I would urge you from experience to look at other vendors as well before plunking down the $ for Dinan.

LET and AES are all supplied by forum sponsors here and GIAC is available locally as well. All I am saying is do your homework first and if after all that Dinan suits your needs best, then go for it.

AFV - thanks for the info, but no no, wasn't really considering Dinan, had just called around for info and also to probe on the warranty questions. The guy at Laurel was VERY honest with me, so that was a good thing. I'll have to look into GIAC, as Spazdoc had mentioned that to me previously as well. Of note though, will all these piggyback type systems, I saw some threads where it looked like either BMWNA either could see that something had been done or were just pretending to tell customers that.

And yes, I am new to the bimmer world, this is my first one after almost buying an E46
M3 years ago (two different times!) and almost buying a 335i about three times

1. What I mentioned aren't piggybacks. They are flash tunes of your car's ECU. If you want a true piggyback JB3 is the hands down favorite on this forum as far as I can tell.

2. Nothing wrong with GIAC at all. The dynos I have seen look really good. Personally, I am running LET's stage II and really like it alot. Plus the providers (Eurocharged in Plainfield) are local active forum sponsors and great guys. The only other tune I would even consider is the EAS tune which you could get through WSTO - prolly the most active and hands down the best local forum sponsor for all your modding needs! I do mean all. Call them first for anything. If you don't call them first, and I will know, I will hunt you down and punch you right in the nads and when you cry out WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY, I'll just say....YOU KNOW WHY.

3. Regarding BMWNA, well I can't say for sure but apparently any modifications to your ECU will leave some trace evidence. The key is to find an SA who will work with you which is a whole nother thread....btw -> plug for Gus at Knauz.

4. Al works. Welcome.

The primary reason to go with dinan is the convenience. Primarily for the 'warranty,' but also having it installed often times by a dealership. I know that BMW could ascribe fault to Dinan in the past, but it seemed more blatant with the turbo engines now. The SA at Patrick was very upfront about this, and we all know of the stories regarding BMW searching for mods to modify warranty coverage. But this denial of coverage also seemed to include Dinan as well.

And I realize that your original question was not an incendiary attempt regarding tuner debates.

that's fucked up, Patrick is where I got my dinan but I know of the other dinan rep. In laurel. Think his name is Kevin, brutally honest guy. I bought my spearco from him before dinan was able to snatch up all the cores. But Dinan is the shit if it fits your needs
if not I'd go procede. Al u must be thinking of eas the supplement maker

AFV - does the flash require mailing out your ECU or is it done through the OBDII port? sorry, I can't believe how easy Subaru tuning is with www.cobbtuning.com compared to this stuff, wow... I'll have to call WSTO for more info.

Spazdoc - I hear ya, which is why with the 20% off sale right now on Dinan, it doesn't look too bad, but yes, down the line you have two concerns - one being the warranty ends at the standard BMW warranty, and two, that BMWNA can blame Dinan for the problems in or outside of that initial warranty.

Depends on which flash. All can be done through the OBDII port, but it depends on whether the local rep has that capability. If you are willing to go to Plainfield, and with the exception of this, why would you? Eurocharged can flash you right there in an hour or so. I don't know first hand but I think the GIAC dealer can too. Currently WSTO would have to send your ECU out for the ESS tune.

Ya - cuz Dinan is required to report the modification. Other tunes are not.

Found this on ESS:

http://www.esstuning.com/categories/...2dSeries/335i/

And talking to Julian at WSTO - they are getting the reflasher in the next few weeks, so it could be done at their shop. Eurocharged is in Plainfield? I'll have to look into them/that option as well. I'm just amazed at the complexity of both the tuning crowd and the bimmer cars in general, compared to the subie world - in a good way But, I may just not do anything at all, as I bought the car as a CPO vehicle and not sure how much i want to jeopardize that

Al just so you know, LET has been called Eurocharged for about a year now...

ESS and GIAC are also great companies. I prefer to work with Tony still but ESS or GIAC might be able to lure me away with some good N55 numbers.
