Unhappy car is been hold in dealer, no est. fix date

My car goes into dealer at 12/04/2006 in the early morning. Because I found there is some clicking sound when I turn the steering wheel. 12/06/2006 at 2pm pst, they called me, and tell me my car is done, they changed the upper steering column. I start the engine, drove 10 foot, that sound comes out again. give back to dealer. 12/07/2006 at 5:13pm pst, i call dealer for update. My SA told me, they change the whole wheel, still doing the same. no est date to get my car fix, because they don't know what is wrong. They called bmw service, but bmw service doesn't know what to do either. . they fix the same problem 2 times already, now is third time. i am just wondering, if they really can't fix that little clicking sound, what will they do? I know it is just little problem, i don't think i can claim lemon... anyone knows?

They should not allow you to leave if both you and the dealer recognizes a problem. Cross your fingers for a new car!

i did not leave the dealer. My SA just print out another set of paper and want me to sign it. Just like making a new service request.

What I meant was that they will only release your car tick free. If the there's no resolution, you may be looking at something new.

Same problem here my dealer gave me some BS story that it's normal part of the brake system.

I'm taking it to Sonnen when I do my next paid oil change.

4 wheel drive makes the noise because of the center diff, correct me if im wrong anyone? it shouldnt happen for slight steering adjustments but in parking lots for example a full length rotation will cause the grinding, ticking sound

no need for full turn. only make 5 degree turn, a little bit faster, like you reverse parking, I will hear that. not only the clicking noise, but also the steering wheel will get stock. remember, engine is in idel, which means the wheel lock won't turn on when i turn the steering wheel.

I've got a 330xi (had it approx 5 months) and I've never heard any grinding or ticking from the steering whilst driving or parking.

it's not about 4wd or rwd, it's just the steering wheel. they just call me this morning, said they think it's the lower steering column. since the upper one been replace, and the wheel been replace, so now they will just try the lower column... hopefully that works.

I doubt they'll lemon your car for the clicking sound, I would think it's more of an annoyance than a mechanical failure

GL getting it fixed !

they keep pushing the date back with many different excuses. Such as "we need to order some other parts to fix it", or "parts is not here today, i dont know why. maybe need to re order." or "we still waiting bmw service for more information." is that normal? I mean, will that be true? or they just ?

It sounds like they are progressing.. talking with BMW service shows they are continuing to get er' done....

But the real question is: WHAT DID THEY GIVE YOU TO FLOG whilst they drag your repairs out? I was usually able to talk them into one model up due to my inconveinence.... last time was a 540 with M suspension..

or they could be talking to the big guy about getting you a brand new car...and that might take some time since it would be a big decision for them to decide. Not trying to get your hope up but at this point anything is possible being that this is the third time they attempted this fix. Yeah, seem like they are stalling and fumbling on some decision.

That sucks--but unfortunately I doubt (like others have said) that this would be a lemon issue. I actually had a lemon issue with my '03 VW Jetta GLI--the stupid thing kept dying at lights and stop signs. It would always restart, but you never knew when it was going to happen. It was in service the requisite 30 consecutive days and VW ended up giving me a new car. Point being--I think this would be looked at as a minor annoyance--not a reason for them to replace the car. Hopefully they will fix it, then you can get back to driving!

I only wish this could happen to mine. Then I could bump up to a 335 and not feel like I wasted money. Although a pain in the ass, atleast you have a BMW loaner right? I'd have one and be rocking it all day long, which would be a treat since I only partially drive mine.

You would be surprised how easy it is to get a new car. My driver window would do up then back down all the time. The dealer tried fixing it all the time but couldn't figure it out. So i complained and after more complaining they just put me in a new one. it was not a lemon. If you are having big problems, ask them to just put you in a new car. The dealership does not pay the bill for a new car, instead BMW pays the bill so the dealership doesn't care. They dont like to do it.(you have to have at least a PUMA case open for this to happen). Good luck

BTW, what kind of loaner do you have?
