Turbo Warruanty/Motorplan

I was about to get into bed tonight, and reading my favorite magazine (Car) I noticed a letter about how the turbo's on some diesel models aren't covered by warruanty, hence increasing their average maintenence costs.

Coming out of a 141kw 325ti (petrol) to my 115kw 4 cyl 320d (turbo-diesel) I did miss a bit of the power, the torque however made up for the driving experience. Due to the power loss, and my general driving habbits...I floor the throttle whenever the road permits. I drive really aggressively and enthusiastically...a drive my BMW the way a bmw is supposed to be driven -> like a sports car.

I have heard of the BMW turbo's blowing, both on some E90's (in spain or turkey i think) and on E46's. Up on the reef here in Johannesburg (High altitude) - I know my turbo is working extra hard to make my car go zoom zoom zoooom.

Now, when my car was sold to me...I was told BMW motorplan covers everything except top-up oil, tyres and diesel for 100 000km's or 5 years. Is my turbo charger fully garuenteed? Or are they going to try and blame it on abuse or driving to hard?? I'm not sure if anyone knows how the BMW motorplan or warruanty system works, but anyones experience would be helpfull.

Also, is there anything one can do to make sure the turbo doesn't blow...without sacrificing my driving experience...

Hey Broken1,

Best thing to do is get on the blower (sorry no pun intended - but it is funny, don't you think!!!) and check with your dealer exactly what you have covered under your plan. It may be best to get confirmation in writing as well, just in case. I think you would have received some paperwork/brochure covering your plan.

It is possible that there are different plans out there to suit different people's individual requirements - OR - ot could be a country specific plan. We have, for instance a fairly lousy 2 year warranty from BMW however, the individual dealers always try their best to look after their customers on an individual basis. We walso have an extended warranty plan at additional cost.

It would be quite dissapointing to learn that the BMW turbos don't really have a decent life but it may just be one or two or it could be stories. You know what it's like, one bad experience out of thousands and "oh no DISASTER!"

Just double check your situation and then FLOOR THAT ACCELERATOR!!!!

Take care.

Garage List
The turbo should be covered under the Motorplan, because they did not specify it as excluded... but check with BMW now rather than later.
