Some questions about the premium package (PP)

Hi guys,

I'm looking to pick up a 335i coupe in the spring when my TSX lease is up. I promise I searched, but couldn't find the answer to this question.

What do you actually get with the $2500 premium package?

Looks like a garage opener, bluetooth, and lumbar support. Leather can be selected separately, right? Oh yeah, magic mirrors.

I don't have a bluetooth phone, have a healthy lower back, and have no use for the fancy mirrors. The opener would be nice (I assume it is like Homelink which I have in my Acura), but I can't imagine it is worth $2500.

Am I missing something?

Oh yeah, one more thing. What is the cost of the aero package (sans spoiler.) I like it, just not that little wing.

Thanks for helping a noob

On the sedan premium buys you leather. Would imagine its the same on the coupe.

Go to bmwusa.com, build your car and select premium package, and you'll see the details.

I have built the car on the website.

When you choose your interior, you choose leather vs leatherette. It looks like you don't have to choose the PP in the options section, even if you've chosen leather under interior?

If the PP gets you leather, then it would be worth it to me. If it's just the electronic stuff, it won't be. Just trying to figure it out.

If you choose leather over leatherette in the begginning and then choose Premium Package, you should not see a charge for both on the summary screen.

If you get leather + bluetooth (a popular option) the price difference with the premium package becomes very small and it is best to get the package (will help resale, too). If you don't care about bluetooth then avoid it.

Got it. I went back and built the car again. Looks like leather without the premium package carries a charge around $1400.

Bluetooth, dimming mirrors, and lumbar support are not worth $1100 to me. Thanks for the help!

You may not have a bluetooth phone today, but I can almost guarantee your next phone will...

Think twice about not ordering Bluetooth. You may not have a BT phone now, but will you have one in a year or two? BT is one of those must-have options, IMO, and I'm not a big cell phone user. Handsfree FTW!

Leather and Bluetooth can be ordered separately from the Premium Package. Had I known what a pain the auto dimming mirrors are I wouldn't have gotten the Premium Package, just the leather and bluetooth. Bluetooth is essential.

You'll be surprised at how useful the bluetooth option is. I would've never thought I needed but now, everytime I drive the car I turn on the blue tooth to my phone.

Another thing I find useful the is compass, again I would've never thought that to be useful.

The BMW assist is also a great feature, easily worth $1000 in my book. It's a 4 year service verses single year in the past. The stolen vehicle recovery service is also nice, insurance companies will give you a discount as if you had the Lo-Jack system installed.

How is the auto dimming mirror a pain? Are you talking about the rearview mirror that automatically dims the headlights from cars behind you? I love that feature and think all cars should come standard with them, mostly as a safety measure. Nothing is worse than having to tilt your head at an awkward angle so that the suv/truck behind you is not burning through your cornea in your rearview/sides with their 10,000k HID lights...

BMW Assist (GPS Vehicle Locator Portion) gives me a 25% discount on my insurance?? If your insurance gives you that discount, I think that alone would make it a valuable option. In addition, the fact of knowing that if I get into an accident, EMS will automatically be dispatched to save my hind.

Premium package got me memory seats which is worth all the money. My wife is small (5'2") so we adjust the seat every time we change drivers. This may not be important to single drivers but was the deciding factor for me.

It is too dark. All I see are the two headlights behind me. I can't see the outline of the car behind me and it makes it difficult to judge how far away the car is. The side mirrors get dark too, so I am looking at two black holes if I try to change lanes. I wish the sensitivity could be adjusted.

I can't see anything but headlights with normal mirrors unless there are streetlights about.

Yeah, I didn't phrase it quite right in my orig post. What I mean to say was, "If the premium package is the ONLY way to get leather, then I'll get it."

I've now learned that you don't have to have the PP to get leather. The other options in the PP aren't useful to me, so I'm going to save $1K!
