Introduce myself... MarkA with a 320Si

Hi all,

Just thought I'd formally introduce myself...

My name's Mark and during early November I took delivery of my new 320Si... as per the signature. I'm based out of NL for work, but I'm really from Stirling in Scotland.

The car has now done just over 2000KMs over the last month, so is on the road to being broken in... I'm now rev'ing it up past 6000rpm and it sounds great. Very pleased with the handling and balance of the car, plus the toys it was ordered with work pretty well and are useful.

I need to drive it more, but half the time it's either parked at an airport or in a garage (either mine, or the companies... ).. I'll get a good chance over Christmas and New Year, when I take my wife and kids over to see the grandparents. I'm looking forward to taking a few driving day trips through the borders, or up the western highlands.

If anyone in Scotland fancies a kind of mini-meet with their BMWs and a wee drive... let me know... I'm over from the 21st of Dec through to the 3rd of January.

My car's photos are on this thread : http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37567

Hi Mark

Nice spec you went for

Still waiting for my Silver "3" to arrive! - A85 or A83/A816 to Oban would be my drive of choice. The run up through Glen Coe would be good also (Weather permitting)

- Unless you have the time to get right out into the wilds of the North West!!

My favourite Biking roads (in the UK) are in the Highlands - magificent scenery and generally good surfaces

All the best

Thanks!

I know the A84/A819 Stirling to Oban via Callendar and Tyndrum well... I more or less learned how to drive properly on that road!

Welcome aboard. So, would you say your 320Si is "Stirling" silver?

I had an E90 320d as a company car before.. which is why I've been registered for a while. But back then they didn't have regional forums here. After I'd gotten the 320d, I only had it a few months when it was written off by a truck. It was a nice car but didn't have iDrive etc. So I replaced it with a Subaru Impreza WRX that was available right away from the garage - hence not posting very much on here... I never even got a photo of the car. I left the company a few months ago and then decided to get another E90... and when I saw the 320Si.. I fell in love with it.

Hi Mark,

Just you wait till you really break the 320si in.

My odometer is about to show 10k miles (yes 10k!) Got my 320si in the 1st week of September. Should be due my 1st service in March i think.

My MPG has just got a bit better (32mpg) in the last few days. But the car is even more awesome when pushed hard.

I've been doing lots of country roads around South Wales at night, and it really does feel like a touring car/rally car when hammering around double bends!

Can't wait to take it on the German Autobahn next saturday.

I'm really glad I went for the 320si - crap economy buts lots of fun driving it

Good god man - you've been racking up the miles. You got your car just after me I seem to recall - I thought I'd done a bit at around 6k miles.

I'm on for 24k a year - looks like you are going to hit 48K

I have done quite a bit. I seem to be living in my car at the moment!

Still its great being behind the wheel of a limited edn BMW.

Had a bit of a scare the other night whilst coming across the Severn Bridge (M4) I had a foreign object hit me. I have no idea what it was but managed to escape with some minor damage

Whatever it was it broke one of the kidney grills.

I've had quite a few stone chips on the windscreen. One of which has been repaired but I am sure I will need a new screen at some stage.

My lease is for 25k per year. If I do more than that then my company pays the excess mileage charges. If they are too high then we get told to choose a new car and return the car you have.

Not a bird. It may have been something dropped off a lorry.
Could be a mutant flying fish - as the Severn is full of unknown chemicals!

Whilst in the middle lane it came at me so fast so I couldn't avoid it.
Whatever it was its sheared off the chrome surround on the bonnet lip.

You wouldn't see anyone on the Severn Bridge - no pedestrians for miles (except for some committed jumpers). My guess is a bit of metal thrown up from the road by a lorry in front. That can do a fiar bit of damage at 70mph.

Commiserations sherkhan - at least your company will pay to put it right

If that is the case ShereKan should be happy it was the grill that took the brunt and not the windscreen.

There was absolutely nothing in front of me for miles so it must have been something that fell of a lorry. I didn't stop on the bridge to check to see what it was as it was quite windy that day (the old bridge was shut - shows how windy it was).

Yep the lease company will put it right. It probably won't be before my trip to Germany or before Xmas so it'll be done in the new year now.

I'm definately glad it wasn't the windscreen!
I've already had lots of big stones hurled at the screen along motorways.
On my previous car a brick bounced off my screen!!

It hit the upper frame area on my 306 cabriolet caused an almighty bang and a nasty crack.

I'm also racking up the miles - car delivered on 11th Aug, about to hit 13k as I drive home tonight. Trios to Brum, Wigan (come on you mighty gunners) and warrington left this week - and a day in the office in Huddersfield. That should take me up to 14k I would have thought....

My lease is for 30k per annum but I reckon I'll do nearer 40k - that means 120k in 3 years (cheaper to run to end of lease than return early - as fleet manager I have to set an example!). But I can't think of a better car to be doing it in....
