AFE 128 intake?
Came across this online but can't find it anywhere else not even on AFE's website? Sent an email to a few vendors but haven't heard back. Anyone have info?

It's the same intake for the E90 non-Turbo 6-cyl. We have it listed on our site for the E90s but it does work for the 128 since it's the name engine.

But will it fit under the hood and work with our engine layout? Since it was not listed on AFE's site my concern was that there was no specific application for us.

I got the Injen intake from Vivid Racing, which is very simmilar...minust the top cover, and ive been quite pleased with it.Due to the open filter it does sound loud arround the 4k RPM, but the car feels way more lively at higher rpm than with the stock airbox.

I was set to order the Injen but several people commented on the "drone" at certain rpm levels. I just want a little more growl while keeping it sounding like a BMW.

Will report back to you as soon as I confirm. Intake resonance is what you're describing. Part of it has to do with how the Injen DCI was setup. |

I just got a chance to discuss this with AFE and it turns out that it is the same part for both vehicles. However, there are two part numbers for: (1) Vehicles equipped with active steering - 54-11862 or (2) Vehicles without active steering - 51-11012.

I think it probably is less restrictive but how much of that is due to the carbon filter built into the factory box would be interesting to know. In other words, how much hp/torque gain would be achieved if you took out the carbon filter and maybe dropped in a K&N or similar low restrictive filter. Probably not all the gain of a complete intake but less cost too.

put mine on today it was kinda difficult and you dont need to use the AFE bracket that supports the power steering fluid, but with that said take the bracket off when trying to install. I am not really certain but i think i have seen that you hav to break the intake in in order to achieve the maximum gains? This is my first intake, and I felt as though the car is slower? I dont know if that is possible or if I am imagining it because of the new loud sound I feel as though it should go faster if that makes any sense.... looking for input on if this is possible or if i installed something wrong.

idk i saw somewhere on this form i think that you have to break in the intake like 500 miles or somthing...i think it has to do with the magflow sensor but iam not really sure it doesnt make sense to me...i will try to get some pics up tomorrow

I am not sure but I think this can me helped by disconnecting the battery to rest the previous learning by the OBC. As I say I am not 100% sure about this bit. |

This process can take 50 miles or it can take 300 miles to finish depending on driving style, altitude, load conditions, and etc. Modern BMWs have thousands of sensors all of which pulls data to the ECU and compensates quickly and effectively. I've had to do this on my Evo before and same with my BMWs as well. |
