Your top 5 favorite options/features…

What are your top 5 favorite options/features which you had in your previous 3 series (e46) that are available and/or are no longer available in your new 3 series (e90/1/2)?

Mine are:
1- Power operated rear windows with "one-touch" tilt-open (e46 coupe - I miss it)
2- Automatic tilt-down of passenger's side-view mirror when vehicle is shifted into reverse gear (e46 & e90/1/2)
3- Finished trunk with [reversible mat] (e46 - why would they remove it?)
4- Rain-sensing windshield wipers (e46 & e90/1/2)
5- Driver memory for exterior mirror and seat positions (e46 & e90/1/2)

Have never had a 3-series (or BMW for that matter) before so I can't rightfully comment -- based on your criteria. However, that has never stopped me before so...
  1. Leather seats
  2. Heated seats
  3. Automatic headlights
  4. Automatic windscreen wipers
  5. Hands free telephone
OK, that's five. But wait, there's more!!!
  • The power of the engine. Never had anything more than 187 hp before.
  • Sunroof/moonroof combination. In the past either had the sunroof or the moonroof, not both together.
  • Electric seat adjustment in more than two axis.
  • Telescopic steering column. Had up/down before but never in/out.
  • The thrill of the Ultimate Driving Machine.
  • Ambience lighting.
  • Lights under the doorhandles.
  • Electrically heated and folding mirrors.
  • Auto dimming mirrors. Still want to flip the clown nose to dim them but I'm getting used to it.
One feature I liked in my 1992 Nissan 240SX was the HICAS (High Capacity Actively Controlled Suspension) which was the speed sensitive four wheel steering.

On my E91 I have one-touch up and down on all four windows. Or do you mean something else?

How about "little things I like about the car"? Besides the engine and handling, of course -- just the little features that make it nice.
  1. Bluetooth. I never realized how great this feature would be.
  2. Comfort/Convenient Access. It really is convenient never to have to reach for your key. A feature that apparently was discontinued for the '07 models is the windows/sunroof/mirrors auto roll-up/fold-up with CA. I wonder why they took that away? I use it all the time.
  3. Heated Seats. They work faster than any heated seats I've ever used, and they heat both back and bottom nicely.
  4. Funky Turn Signal. Annoying at first, then I got used to it and I miss the "3 blink" thing whenever I have to drive another car.
  5. Leaf Catcher. I like the little removable screens in the engine bay to catch leaves and debris where the water channels away from the windshield. It makes it so easy to clean and keeps crap out of there so it doesn't get moldy and stinky.
  6. Door Handle LEDs. Not that I much use with CA, but when I use the fob, I like the little puddle lights that make it easier to see the handles and the stuff right around the doors. You'd think this would be bordering on cheesy, but it is tastefully done. A nice touch.
  7. Auto Headlights. Mine work great and come on at appropriate times. I remember the old days when I would have to turn them on, and -- get this -- then turn them off when I finished driving! Makes me tired just thinking about it.
  8. Rain Sensing Wipers. They work great, too. Only complaint is that the green "on" indicator light is hidden behind the steering wheel so you can't tell if you've turned them on.
  9. Handles Inside the Trunk Lid. Great idea for the OCD like me. It keeps me from leaving hand prints on my black car.
  10. Auto-dimming Side Mirrors. So nice to have this in addition to the dimming rear view mirror. In other cars I've had, the rear view mirror may auto-dim, but the sides don't, so you still get blinded by stupid SUV lights.

Yes I mean something else and my e92 no longer has it, they removed it. It's the power operated rear windows with "one-touch" tilt-open that I had in the e46 coupe, which opened by flaring out a few inches at the back to let stale air out.

That is a good feature. The last thing you need are people in the back seat making the "stale fart" face.

My 07 still rolls up windows and closes sunroof with CA -- just not mirrors.

Having now lived with IDrive, I don't really understand why it gets so much negative feedback. I think its great and had it mastered in a day. Then again the 3-series only has about 40 features, the 7-series has hundreds I think.

IDrive = :rocks:

Garage List
1. Turbo #1
2. Turbo #2
3. Front Mount Intercooler For Turbo #1 & Turbo #2
4. The fun factor of driving a 300hp 3 Series (from the factory!)
5. Hill Assist. As cheesy as that sounds, its pretty freakin' helpful.

i like the idrive, the current version is much better.

my mom has an 04 745i and its idrive is really annoying, the only difference i can see from them is on the 330i you have the i button in the center where as on the 7 the i button is split up into the 4 corners, which causes the most issues.

my dads 05 645ci has the same idrive as I do, so i think its an age thing.

E46 fron seats slide and move up - which makes it easier to get into back seats. E92 front seats only slide, no move up. I think it was a great feature.

That's good news. I thought both features were taken away. I think I could live without folding mirrors on lock/unlock (even though I like it) but not without the rolling up windows/sunroof.

1. M-Sport Pack
2. Pro Nav / with iDrive
3. iPod integration with iDrive.
4. Auto wipers/Auto mirror/Auto lights. : set and forget.
5. Bluetooth integration with iDrive.
5. PDC and it's integration with iDrive... cool radar view
5. Auto Air Conditioning... : set and forget.
5. All the little settings you can make in iDrive just to taylor the car : set and forget.
5. Ambient lighting
5. Voice commands

Actually every option I bought is completely worth it.... I thought at first that Pro Nav and Bluetooth were over the top expensive options... but I can't imagine the car without this stuff.. its very convenient and keep the cabin nice and tidy... no wires anywhere.. no CD cases and chargers and stick on stuff on the window .. just harmony
