Oil Additives (Prolong, Slick 50, etc.)

I was the 'victim of advertising' and happily used Prolong in my previous car along w/Mobil full synthetic. The engine seemed to run smoothly. Purred like a sleeping tiger. And made me feel like I was doing something extra special to ensure better-than-average engine lubrication.

Curious what the board can recommend on their experience. Pros/Cons of something like this in our E90's. Just looking for folks to chime in on their thoughts of use on Slick 50, Prolong, etc.

Isn't Prolong a "male enhancement" anyways? Pour 3/4 of a bottle into your crankcase, the other 1/4 bottle over your own crank! Boioioioing!!

Even though I used slick 50 many years ago in my other cars, I would never put any of those products in my e90.

I use prolong on my daily drivers and do like it a lot......but I don't think it is necessary on newer cars and definately not necessary for new BMW's

All oil additives have been bullshit to me. My dad was military mechanics and he never believed in these. Please check it out yourself at FTC website for the charges against those. Just for a reference, there're different opinion of these:

I always thought they were recommended for high mileage vehicles.

A friend of mine experienced knocking issues in his Legend after using Prolong.

No oil additives in your E90. None. Zero. Not now, not ever. If you want peace
of mind, do oil changes more regularly. The only additive and that in case you
have problems only, is the fuel system cleaner one PN 82140413341.

Step away from the teflon....

I agree with all the other posters. Oil additives are a total waste of money. Modern synthentic oils are the best ever made (they already include proven additives).

IMO Oil additives have the potential for damaging the car. I added ProLong to my 1979 Chevy Truck and the cam went flat within 3000 miles. Coincidence?

yup, I know slick 50 landed in court for some sort of fraud. I doubt you can get slick 50 here in the us.
