Those who went from e46 m3 to 335i?

Hey, I was just wondering what all the guys that owned e46 m3s and switched to the 335 thought of the change? Or if there are current M3 owners that decided to keep the M3 becasue the 335i wasnt worth their while. As much as love 335s the M3 is just badass!

We've already had this flameway a few times, you might want to search the archives.

Summary:
- They are neck in neck in performance
- They are very different in character
- The still gets more looks
- F You: You M3 guys are elitist snobs
- F You back: You are just jealous
- F It: Lets all have a beer

While we're on the topic, how much louder is the road noise in an e46 M3 vs the e90/92?

In my vert, its like the difference between riding a bike vs. riding in a 777. But that doesn't help you much.

i think the new 335i would get more looks than the outgoing M. I think interior on the M3 is nicely done.
But on the outside i think the 335i is a head turner. M3's are dime a dozen now days anyone can spot one and tell you oh yeah that's a M3.
not everyone can point a 335i out - they are more like whoa..thats nice what is it..and thats what turns their head. In time it too will become main stream.

No i know the differences. But I was curious on how the people who actually did the swap feel about their choice.

Ive read a post from other forums (m3forum or e46fanatics) of from a guy who did it and misses his e46 M3, if I find it I'll post it.

... and I also read one thread to the effect of "I sold my e46/M3 cab for a e60/M5 pls help me feel good about it"

but my take on a 335i is, its like my e90 except very very very fast while the e46/M is fast and handles quite differently and I feel snugly in a space capsule. lolz

honestly I think this guy misses more having a topdown more that anything, and I understand it.

Now, for having the M5. I think its too much of an overkill.
Althought my last M5 wasnt an e60 but an e39, after a few days of it, I didnt like it for it was like driving a time bomb, and the car doesnt like to be driven within speed limit. I feel guilty driving it. Im stressed driving it around and seeing cops, even though I havent done anything wrong yet!

So, for my health concerns I traded it in, otherwise it would have really put me more in trouble.

3 series, either 335 or M is just perfect everyday FUN !

Did you just imply that the M5 is too fast?

Well for the M5 thing (since it got brought up and is a lil off topic), my dad used to own e39 M5 and an e46 m3. and now he is driven away from BMW. im 18 and my dad is 40 just incase any of you were wondering. But anyway. now he drives a 911 turbo(997), sl 55 amg, and is350. I was trying to get him to trade his is350 in for a bmw, but he feels like Bangle has F'ed up bmws name. I mean take this for example. when my dad had the e39 m5 in 2001, there was a huge waitlist and nobody could get one unless it was used and you never see one sittin gin the showroom. Here in seattle theres 2 e60 m5s sitting in the showroom (with no premium) and at another dealership theres another 07'. Its like bmw has lost its touch. e46 m3, e39 m5 no1 could argue and say its ugly or make excuses for it - the looks the power everything was perfect, yet now theres soo much controversy. I still have my name down for a 335i, but i honestly wasnt too impressed with it (then again no car feels fast after sitting in the 997. anyway i just want the car for its moddability. I am not taking my dad's advice on moving to another manufacturer becasue i love bmw..just because its a BMW (all the respect that it comes with).

well I guess after getting used to his new car and having everyone talk to him about his nice dilema,
he is finally on the road to automotive bliss once again

did you know that bangle is not the only one to design cars for BMW? How is he to blame? Also I think BMW is doing great as they are making more money then ever and selling boatloads of cars.

Yo man. the point of my post was not to offend bangle. lol i woudlnt have my name down ona 335i if i ddint like the am i rite? And listen Bangle is one of the main guys for the "differences" is in the newer bmw's. Do u understand what i am saying? BMW has had good sales just because of ppl like me, who like BMW just because of the name and could care less of all the radical changes going on. For all u 330i owners, in the e46 did they change it after what less then 9 months? but on the e90 they went from the 330i to the 335i in less then 9 months..wwhat does that tell u? And they face lifted the 7 series quicker then u can pop a boner..feel meh?

I went from an 04 e46 M3 to a 335i. Both are great cars. Both feel equally fast. The M3 handles a bit better but I never tracked my M so I never utilized it to its potential. The 335 is definitely alot more of a comfortable ride. I just took the 335 to Vegas (3.5 hour drive) and it was so smooth.

Both cars get alot of looks, the 335i because it is new and there aren't too many around yet. The M3 gets more looks from people that know its potential and know its not just a 3 series. Most of my female friends seem to like the look and ride of the 335 better.

Here are a couple pics of both the old M and the new 335 that I have posted before.

The noise is much much much louder in an M3 compared to a 335i. I barely heard the 335i when I tested it. Whereas the S54 at 8000RPM literally screams. I thought performance was about the same as far as accelleration but the M3 greatly outhandled the 335i sedan. Both are great cars. You just have to figure out what you want. If you want comfort and new technology, go for the E92. If you want exclusiveness and more performance than you really need for street, get the M3.

I think this is right.

I don't have a 335, so I won't comment on the power. The E46 M3 feels like a slab of granite chiseled into a car. My E90 feels like many pieces of granite assembled into a car. Both cars are amazing, but the M3 is special.
