Question TPS on 2007 E90/92 328i????

I have been searching all day and can't seem to find a answer. I have even called two different dealers and they haven't got a clue about the 06's not to mention the 07's....

With that in mind, does the 2007 US Spec E90/92 328i have the TPS sensors on each wheel or is it only on the 335i E90/92?

I am getting ready to install winter tires/wheels on my wifes car tomorrow and want to make sure I don't need additional sensors for the new wheels? If so, are they on the valve stem or rubber banded to the inside of the wheel? (Part # or link would be great)

Sorry if the post is a repeat but I couldn't find it in my search and the posts that were related DID NOT have an answer to the question.

Thanks,

Josh

I've read:

E90 uses passive sensors for both 2006 and 2007, all versions
E92 uses passive sensors on the 328/328xi
E92 uses active TPS for the 335

Thanks and I don't mean to question you but where did you find this info?

I really appreciate your help, I just want to make sure this is "official" and a usefull thread that everyone can benefit from. I guess I'll find out for sure tomorrow but I was looking for something official before I tested it on my own in the morning.

I went through the same situation.

THE ANSWER IS : If your oem wheels have a rubber (flexible) valve stem you dont have the sensor in the wheels. If this is your application remember to reset the the tps after changing the wheels.

Good point, the valve stem on TPM wheels are made of metal and not rubber. That is a dead give away.

Thanks guys!

I'm off to look and get the tires/wheels swapped...

I just wanted to post an update. I mounted another set of wheels and tires today that were 16" and have had no problems with the computer or TPS warning in the car. I had the rubber valve stems on the stock 17" Sport wheels so everything appears to be fine at this point with the new set.

With that in mind, I assume that the 2007 328i E90 DOES NOT have the TPS on the wheels....

It achieves the same result using an indirect method i.e using the ABS sensors as a source for the data needed to compute TPM. The rest of world is using this method also. Because of the F.rd tire blow out fiasco all autos sold in the USA must be equipped with direct tire pressure monitoring devices. They must be 100% compliant by Sept 2008.

So far the only vehicles that have come through with live pressure sensors have been the E92 Coupes.

fwiw my E90 335 2007 has rubber stems, no radio transmitter system. Just the E92s seem to have it. One more reason to buy the sedan....
