Because english is the #1 language in the world. Not having that ability really hinders you personally and professionally. That and the US military has been here since WW II

I don't think that many Germans who don't speak English feel hindered or personally diminished, but in fact, because English is indeed the language of commerce, many Europeans generally have adopted English as a means to communicate among themselves and with the outside world.

In those areas where the US and UK armies are present, English is evidently spoken more for obvious reasons.

Servus!

Ich kann dir zwar nicht zu 100% sagen, was das für ein Ding ist, aber ich schätze mal das es sich um eine eingebaute Radarpistole oder dergleichen handelt. :

And in the language of commerce..

I guess we see on the pictures a new type of radar camera´s for speed check. The only difference is, that it is not portable..

I wonder if it's only a matter of time before cameras like that get here in California. We already have red-light cameras at intersections.

Just to come back on this old topic that i just discovered today. The pics above have been taken on the highway in Switzerland, beetween Lausanne and Geneva. These are only the radar detectors and not the camera that take the pics. A Camera is installed on a mast, 5-10 meters after this detector. The camera flashes on both directions, so it takes pictures from you in front view and back view (2 times). Camera are digitals, so it runs 24h/24h. Speed detection will be activated from the police central. Usually only 3 radar are "on" in the same time. There is one installation each 6 km beetween Lausanne & Geneva. Theses installations are able to take on pictures on each lanes of both sides of the highway. It also recognizes if you are driving a car, a car with a trailer, a bus or a truck, and then it compares it with the allowed speed limit depending of what you are driving.
Have fun driving around here...

Has anyone ever tried the blur plastic license plate cover to fight the cameras? I have one Switzerland and two Germany tickets right now. Just wondering.

Amazing that I have yet to get a speeding ticket considering how often I'm over the speed limit. I'm not complaining. lol

yes it is. The new entertainement system of our highway police!

@ doctor detroit: forget about it. Police can follow you "live" over their camera system. So the HQ of the Police that survey the highway will ask a police car to check you and why your plate doesn't appear on their screen!
