depends on what you want out of the car. i have both and they are 2 totally different driving machines. the 3 series is obviously going to have the luxury appeal to it, nice smooth ride, all the bells and whistles, along with that lovely BMW badge. the sti is going to blow the doors off the bmw and you can make them go extremely fast at an affordable price. how old are you if you don't mind me asking? i have had my stage 4+ wrx since i was 18 and am 23 now. i still love driving it, but it has taken a back seat to the 335i. maybe it's cause i am getting old! haha. the wrx/sti is an awesome car. it has been modded since day one and i have never had a problem with the car. it is still going strong with over 95,000 miles and i have no plans of getting rid of it. like i said, it all depends on what you want out of the car, both are great cars. if you want more info on subies, check out www.nasioc.com. best subie forum out there!

Since you're saying "first car" and not "first new car" or something similar, I'm guessing you just got your license. Since you mention the STI, I'm guessing you're considering the 335i. Both car's are way to much car for a first vehicle. Go get a Mini, Scion TC, Honda Civic, regular Subaru Impreza, or something similar. You'll save on the car as well as insurance, and they're all still fun cars to drive. Keep in mind that this thing will without a doubt get a few scrapes as well as a fender-bender here and there... if you don't wrap it around a tree first.

Hahahah. I could not agree more. My first car was a POS 84 Ford Bronco II. but it got to school, work, and practice (most of the time). I had to wait till I was 30 with a good job to buy my first new BMW.
Oh well, not everyone is fortunate like this guy. Honestly I would get the Evo MR if I was 16 and my parents were buying me a car. Quote:

if you are going to get a BMW, i suggest that you get the 328i, because there is no need for the 335i. it has too much power and is too nice for a 16 year old kid

Its nice to have such generous parents, mine only bought me an 89 civic during high school (1995) and then a 2001 civic during university. Still I'm forever grateful and am not complaining. After 8yrs university I've worked one year and could now afford my bimmer. But I have no problem, with people who are given better cars as many of my friends got nothing from their parents so in a way I know how your situation might feel. Its definetely more rewarding to earn your first high end car but I don't think many of us would have turned it down at 16 either. 300hp is a lot to start with, civics with 130 or less are actually just as fun to drive (5spd of course) to work for all the power up to 6800rpm can be fun and you can drive the shit out of it and not worry! That said, either car you mentioned would be awesome, Subaru is a more "raw" car, BMW more luxury but the 335 will keep up so power isn't really an issue.
