1) That is over a month old.
2) The 300hp number came while the car was overboosting right after a shift before the ECU had a chance to turn down the boost.
3) It's painfully obvious the car is underrated. BMW doesn't want to hurt e46 M3 sales over the next year.

No doubt the car is underrated, but read the article more closely. the 300 hp is an anomaly due to over boost right after shifting. What is does show is potential through tuning. A la Xcede from Shiv.
